This is a new fb pastime. Thought it would be fun/interersting to see the
must have albums from the frequent posters in this group. I say take your
time - 15 mins may not be enough. For me it was about10 mins too much. If I
used more time I'm sure my list would be different. Clearly only 15 is
pretty limiting as most of us have tons of influences I'm sure but it's just
for fun. I tried not to include greatest hits collections. My list would be
very different with those included. You will not be graded on this.

    Sgt. Pepper - Beatles
    Physical Graffiti - Zeppelin
Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd
    Exile On Mainstreet - Stones
Blow By Blow - Jeff Beck
Close To The Edge - Yes
    Aja - S. Dan
    Royal Scam - S. Dan
    Murmur - REM
    Who's Next
    Joshua Tree - U2
Before These Crowded Streets - D. Matthews
    Are You Experienced - Hendrix
Madman Across The Water - Elton John
    Yellow Moon - Neville Brothers

no fair Glennbo! It's easier to go over than to narrow it down. Interesting
list though. Several of my FB friends included Mahavishnu - Apocalypse!

Ok then, scratch Pump, Retrospective, Rides Again, and They Only Come out
    at Night.

I read an interview with George Martin where he said that Apocalypse was
the album he was most proud of being involved with.

I originally did this exercise for the MusicThoughts list on Yahoogroups.
They just asked about albums that would always stick with you, as opposed to
any sort of musical influences or must have albums. My quick, from-the-hip
    stab at that was:

    1. Elton John - Goodbye Yellowbrick Road
    2. Billy Joel - Nylon Curtain
    3. Dixie Chicks - Fly
    4. Eagles - Hotel California
    5. Garth Brooks - No Fences
    6. Gordon Lightfoot - Gord's Gold
    7. ABBA - Gold (or really just about any of their albums)
    8. Dan Fogelberg - The Innocent Age
    9. Bob Dylan - Greatest Hits
    10. Styx - The Grand Illusion
    11. Linda Ronstadt - (really any number of her late 70's albums, but I'll go
with:) Simple Dreams (with second choice: Heart Like a Wheel)
    12. Elvis Costello - Taking Liberties
    13. Bruce Springsteen - The River
    14. Bread - The Best of Bread
    15. Bee Gees - Gold

Of course, it'd be hard to stop there, especially needing to add some
additional songwriting influences like Neil Sedaka (Sedaka's Back), Eric
Carmen (All By Myself), Jim Croce (really pretty much all of his output),
and most all the early Elton John and Billy Joel albums, but also various
rock groups like Aerosmith (Toys in the Attic), Queen (Night at the Opera),
and lots more. Yeah, I'd even include the Beatles, though not so much from
any of their albums, rather more from learning their songs separately,
typically from music books. Elvis Presley, too, but more from TV than
albums. In fact, I'd credit Elvis and Linda Ronstadt as being, indirectly,
two of my biggest songwriting influences. Neither of them was really a
songwriter, but both of them covered some great songs and introduced me to a
number of songwriters' work I'd later come to love separately. For example,
Linda Ronstadt comes to mind for introducing me to Elvis Costello, Neil
Young, Hank Cochran, Willie Nelson, and more.

Someone on the MusicThoughts list complained about my including a number of
greatest hits albums on there. My response was that I came to a number of
the artists late, and it was their greatest hits albums that I got first.
For example, that was true of Dylan, Lightfoot, Bread, and the Bee Gees
(with an early/pre-disco greatest hits). The one exception is ABBA. That
was just a copout, because I couldn't bring myself to just pick one of their
albums, and the 20-song (I think) Gold compilation at least gives a good
sampling of the hits plus a few slightly lesser known but excellent songs.

Wasn't sure if this was supposed to be my favorites in general, or
those most influential to me, or just what came to mind. I went with
most favorite over time, which might include some that I've heard so
much to that I don't often spin them these days.

Since I had that much time, I kept listing until the the time was up,
then eliminated some. Very hard to do, and I'd probably come up with
something different every time I did it.

    I see I'm definitely a child of the 60s-70s. A couple of '80s things
came off the list, but nothing later, I think. I definitely favor stuff
with prominent guitars. Mostly "classic rock", although it wasn't
classic when I first listened to it.

    A Wizard/A True Star - Todd Rundgren
    A Hard Day's Night - Beatles
    Armed Forces - Elvis Costello
A Passion Play - Jethro Tull
Starless & Bible Black - King Crimson
    Led Zeppelin 3
    Jim Hall Live
    Who's Next
    Peter Gabriel 3
Let It Bleed - Rolling Stones
12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus - Spirit
    Katie Lied - Steely Dan
    Marquee Moon - Television
    The Doors
Rough and Ready - Jeff Beck
Crystal Silence - Chick Corea & Gary Burton

I first bought this on 8-track tape while I was on the road. Before it
made it through the second play, the tape munched in the player, so my bass
player and I took the cartridge apart, and carefully unreeled the tape back
and forth across the floor of our hotel room. I then re-wound the tape
back onto it's spindle, and snapped the cartridge back together. That tape
played fine from then on until I didn't use any 8-track players any more.
