I thought I would post this info since my thread "Surround--how necessary?" generated a lot of discussion here: Those of you who have read my 24-bit threads know I have now got Sonar 4. Well, I've found that with my SBLive drivers enabled I am confined to an audio driver bit depth of 16, although it will permit a file bit depth of 24--this sounds weird to me, and I got the impression that the CW tech I spoke to thought so too. So if I want to record in true 24-bit, which, having tried it, I do, I have to keep only my Audiophile drivers enabled (my Audiophile and Ozone don't play nicely together at 24-bit either, even with the tweak recommended by CW) and then to play around in surround I'd have to dis-enable the Audiophile and re-enable the SBLive, change all the settings, yadayadayada, and then the same to go back to 24-bit, which seems like a real PITA, and the CW tech said Sonar "wasn't really made"" to keep switching drivers around. Not to mention the dithering down to 16-bit before mixing. So anyway, I am looking at other Delta cards with more inputs for my holiday gift to myself this year. ( Delta because they will sync with the one I have.) It would be nice to be able to do everything without switching drivers and re-profiling all the time, not to mention how cool internet radio and other audio would sound through the pro card in 5.1.
