Hi everybody, Today must be a bad day... I've been working with SX 1 for two months and it was just plain pleasure, smooth, not to CPU demanding, plain stable... Great. And today, every thirthy seconds or so, I got my CPU turning red in the VST performance window and sound chopping then stopping and then playing again. With the same projects that ran perfectly yesterday... So is it a sign of paranormal activity in my computer or what ? I just installed a pci modem card a week ago, no irq conflicts, not ACPI based OS...Otherwise I don't see what changed in my configuration. 1700+Athlon, win 98se, 256 mo DDR RAM, k7s5a mobo, Guillemot ISIS soundcard. Any clue, someone?

Try removing or disabling plugins one by one. Nothing else was changed eh, no new plugins installed, no hardware changes. (an IDE drive not running in DMA mode can do this). Nothing new running in the background? Ap

Hey, How can you run SX with Windows 98 SE?? I thought you needed XP to run SX?? Hey also, did you know that SX requires heaps (HEAPS) more processing power just to have the program open (before you even hit PLAY or RECORD) than what Cubase 5 does?? Probably not a problem if your computer is really powerful, but a point that is not widely know.. Paul paspallum

SX runs with Win98SE (maybe even Win98) and above since version 1.02 or 1.03. Steinberg changed the installer. >Hey also, did you know that SX requires heaps (HEAPS) more processing >power just to have the program open (before you even hit PLAY or >RECORD) than what Cubase 5 does?? His system was working fine prior to the modem install. I was wondering if it is a dreaded Win_Modem, those are bad news for a daw system, if you're going to use a modem on a DAW, make it hardware based. Ap

Ap, you suggested disabling plug-ins one by one, I'll try to do that (maybe it could be just a bad free plug-in messin' in my project). I'll let you know. Otherwise the modem is PCI-based hardware. Cubase is still coughing today, Damn. Rowen
When did you last defrag your hard drive ? My pc suffers from exactly the same problem If I let the hard drive fragment beyond a certain point . . . -- Peace ! I would stuff as much RAM in that bastard as I could get in there. I actually feel sorry for people trying run SX on 256mb. even 512mb is iffy, imo. Get GB's of DDR! can't hurt...lol v!
