I bit the bullet and did a fresh load of my workshop pc and decided I would try service pack 2 on it. within 2 days it was caught in a reboot loop where it wouldn't boot up properly just getting to the windows blue screen and rebooting and I couldn't seem to stop it even using safe mode. So I did another fresh reload of the pc and refuse to use Microslops service pack 2 now. Is anyone actually using service pack 2 without problems?
No problems here. All my machines run SP2 + all post hotfixes. Maybe try a repair-install? (You'll need an XP CD with SP2 already on) -- Sue Morton "sycle1" <> wrote in message news:45Tbf.11310$... >I bit the bullet and did a fresh load of my workshop pc and decided I would > try service pack 2 on it. within 2 days it was caught in a reboot loop > where > it wouldn't boot up properly just getting to the windows blue screen and > rebooting and I couldn't seem to stop it even using safe mode. > So I did another fresh reload of the pc and refuse to use Microslops > service > pack 2 now. > Is anyone actually using service pack 2 without problems? > > >

But, I just found a link that covers how to do it, plus how to make a bootable XP with SP2 CD. Here's a nice link explaining how to do it: http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2_slipstream.asp Bill Ruys.

When I say latest I mean latest (released a few weeks ago). Of course you are going to have to start over but I got all the updates to install from start to finish now (took 12 hours) and things are very stable and fast. The first thing to do after the OS install is update the matrox driver, then do all the windows updates (there are about a hundred of them). Then start reinstalling any software. Hope this helps. I guess that's because of new motherboards without AGP slots (PCI instead). RM
Yes, most everybody. SP2 w/ XP Pro, wouldn't go without it. No problems at all. 4 machines, all different configs and specs. SP2 is necessary if you want stability in XP Pro or Home Frank L "sycle1" <> wrote in message news:45Tbf.11310$... > > >
I disagree. SP1 is perfectly stable on 2 audio machines here, and has been for longer than a year. Neither goes on the internet. Steve "Frank L" <> wrote in message news:... > Yes, most everybody. I finally committed to it and used XP Lite to remove my service pack source files so I can't go back now anyway, at least not without a hassle. I do have two additional services running that I can't stop without losing some networking capability but they don't seem to have much impact. Ben N. Moore

Steve, I guess I should included "for the vast majority" in my sentence for those who choose to stay with SP1 and have no problems. The OP was inquiring about the stability of SP2. While their are some instances where SP1 performs OK, SP2 is recommended by the overwhelming majority for it's stability and performance. Below is my correction. >>"for the vast majority", SP2 is necessary if you want stability in XP Pro >>or Home.
