    Hi all
I posted on here a few weeks back about a very (seemingly) cheap and
fantastic deal that was selling BFD Eco, plus there were giving away
the "Greatest Hits Expansion Pack" and even a 2gig usb flash drive all for
    $50.
It seems judging by the lack of responses to have gone down like the titanic
but I'm just wondering if anyone did actually buy it.
Well I bought it and being as I own BFD 2 I only bought it for the expansion
pack so it's not a problem for me.

Musicians friend have been a bit naughty I think. You would expect the
expansion pack to work with BFD Eco? Why give it away otherwise?
No one would buy Eco on it's own if like me they already owned BFD 2 so all
those who did buy it are probably feeling pretty pissed off and justifiably
so. Ok, even without the expansion pack BFD Eco for $49 is a no brainer but
still they (musicians friend) really should know better I think.
    Cheers

I passed on it coz I have Superior Drummer 2 and am real happy with it
using my V-Drums to play it. I wouldn't mind having BFD as well, but I
just don't have the bucks to support two premium drum softwares.

Fare enough GB, I thought it was just too cheap not to broadcast though.
It's there till the end of December but is now at $149
with an instant $50 discount so it's $99. As if you couldn't have figured
that out for your selves :)

Anyway as for my complaints about the expansion pack not working in Eco it
seems I was talking out my backside.
You can load all the individual kit pieces in Eco but not the actual kits,
once loaded you can then save them as your own kits.
Bet you can't do that in superior? :)

Oh no doubt that was a killer deal, if I'd had an extra fifty bucks, I'd
have jumped on it. I did watch it throughout the day, and saw it go up
to $99 then $149, all in the course of about an hour. ;)

Of course you can mix-n-match in Superior. I can load any samples up
from Superior 1, EZ-Drummer, and Superior 2 to make a kit, and then save
it as one of my kits. So what do you *not* get with BFD Eco that you do
get with the full blown BFD?

That would be correct. You can't load other sample libraries in
Superior. I haven't had any desire to do that.

These weren't sample libraries from other companies Dave, the "greatest
    hits" is an fxpansion library
but it didn't load in Eco the same way it did in BFD 2. Although I'm more
than happy with my ever expanding
library I think it would be great if I could load libraries from other
companies like toontrack just to see if they
sound any different. I don't think it would diminish BFD any if it could do
that but I doubt it's going to happen.

As for the differences between Eco and BFD 2 Glenbo, I've not spent a lot of
time using eco but there are many.
Some are subtle and others less so. Eco uses less velocity levels and is 16
bit only (although I don't think 16 bit
only makes a lot of difference to my ears the reduced velocity layers can be
    quite telling.
It seems you only have 2 auxiliary channels in eco where as you can have as
many as you like in BFD 2.
There are a lot of differences in the mixer which, if you prefer to use your
    host sequencers mixer won't matter
much I guess but I really like the BFD 2 mixer and it has some really neat
features that I wish sonar had.
I think you mentioned something about wanting to have your aux channels any
    place you liked?
I can do that in the BFD mixer but not in eco. Eco has many more pre-sets of
    different genres which 6 months
ago I was crying out for but now I prefer create my own sounds, although
they are good to give you a starting point
    sometimes.
As well as having more articulations BFD 2 has many more articulation
controls and can be they created for each individual
articulation so if I want velocity to pitch control on just the snare hit
and no the drag that very easy to do.
Eco has 12 instrument slots where as BFD 2 has up to 32. Strangely some
people have been complaining they couldn't
run more than one instance as if to say their 32 piece kit just isn't big
enough. I can run more than one instance
though in sonar on windows 7, just haven't yet felt the need :)
BFD 2 has a full midi mapping and controller assignment page which eco
doesn't seem to have so that's got to make it
easier for people using V-drums and stuff as well as the likes of me who
just plod along in the piano role :(
There are quite a few other differences not forgetting of course that BFD 2
comes with completely separate 10 kits
where as I think eco mixes a selection of snares, kicks etc. to create
different kits. BFD 2 is 55GB full install.

Fx wise they are mostly the same but you only get the "Breverb" plate with
eco and not the, hall, room & inverse
ones that come with BFD 2. Also BFD 2 comes with PSP's vintage warmer built
    in.
Obviously these things wont make diddly squat if you have all the fx you
need and you prefer to mix in in your host.

So these are some of the main differences I have found so far.
Eco is great for the price but I think the difference is reflected in the
higher cost of BFD 2 and with the extra kits and flexibility
I'd say BFD 2 is more than worth it.

Sounds similar to the differences between Superior and EZ-Drummer. What
I'm really liking about the "Lost New York Studios" samples that I'm
using for my primary digital drum kit now, is that I don't even need
any reverb. These samples open up and show off the room they were
recorded in (if you have them in the mix) when you hit the drums hard.

There is no reverb at all on this little test I did this morning.
