Hello, I have Cubase3 SX and would like to know what I need to get to be able to control functions like record, stop, play etc. My friend has a Mackie device which has these on it, is it called a control surface? If so, what ones would you recommend for Cubase or does it matter? Thanks, Jim --- news://freenews.netfront.net/ - complaints: ---

It actually gives you 8 faders but they are not motorized. I never used them because of that but it has 2 midi in/out you may like and you can use the 4 tracks in and 2 out if you don't have a higher end converter. I actually really miss mine that I sold on ebay. I wish I hadn't. The transport is simple and always worked.

Emulates Mackie Control. Works great. http://www.dv247.com/computer-hardw...-total-recall-usb-midi-controller-desk--21929 for example - £133GBP/161 Euro. You can use multiple BCF2000 simultaneously to emulate a 24 channel mixer desk. Nick

The biggest problem is that the fader motors are quite noisy, particularly when you have multiple track automation going. On the plus side, it is much, much cheaper than a real Mackie Hui (though no jog wheel and the quality cannot really be compared...Mackies are nice). There are really quite a number of choices out there and SX3 has direct support for most or you can create your own mapping. -CS

I really liked the US-428 feel and especially the jog wheel. Does this one feel solid and look like it will last? You can only buy used Tascam units though I think that isn't a problem. I think I rather like the small frame of your idea.

I think I rather like the small frame of your idea. Yes...as far as a plastic case can feel solid, it does. It sits on top of my piano keyboard, so I can hit the buttons easily, and the rubber feet prevent it from slipping off. The jog wheel feels pretty reliable too. But what's really cool is that it's wireless, so I can move it around the studio, e.g. play guitar at the other end without having to reach over to the mixing desk. My biggest issue has always been being on both sides of the glass. I can extend a monitor but not too far and the iphone app helps but having a remote will be a big help too. Thanks

It is an infrared connection, or it feels like one anyway, so I am not sure it will work in your circumstances. I have been experimenting: At more than six meters, it will sometimes lose its connection, but three meters with double glazing in between is no problem. There is a connector with a 1.5m cable that needs to be plugged into an USB port of the computer. The placing of that connector (which is the size of a small cell phone) is important, and so may the state of the battery. Another important thing that I like: the action is absolutely instantaneous.
