I found a brochure dated mid 2000 today, announcing the release of Cubase 5, which came before SX1. Strange how the past catches up with the present sometimes...

This has always been a mystery to me... Is that because what we call "cubase 5" was actually officially named "cubase VST 5"? Another thing that bothered me at the time is that I never knew why there never was a cubase5 for Mac. If I'm not mistaken, the last version number before SX , in the mac edition, was 4. Huey

While at home , I had a version 5 for PC. As I never would have beleieved that a pro studio could be less up to date than me, I always assumed that there never was a version 5 for max. Huey

I was really upset when they upgraded and things started going south. They came out with 5.1 and fixed it all but about a few months after 5.0 came out they came out with SX. I was so tweaked at that that I waited until SX3 came out before I bought from them again... and then that sucked too. I have cubase 5 now and I'm actually really liking it. I think it is the first time sense VST4 that I have liked the program. There is nothing more vometous then a crashing program. I'm old school 2" 24 of 16 track style and the idea that something can crash will never sit well with me. I really wish they would strip a version down to have everything like it was when I was using the old machines. Make me a really nice SSl board with all the fixins and when I drag my mouse over the part of the board I want it expands automatically like one of those magnifying glass things and just let me do everything from one panel. Give me one rack of stuff and let me drag and drop the patch cables..... make it like the real stuff and I would be thrilled. I have never used a midi editor or any other editor really and things come out just fine with out it. At lest I think so. I haven't had any real exposure to the outside world since my day back in the 80's Open for interpretation . You can hear some of my none edited tracks at myspace.com/pianomandanny and I don't get my feelings hurt.
Is it just me or did they just do some minor visual tweaks on the menus and toolbars lately on Cubase 5.5. I seem to recall the buttons and toolbars having a much more professional, shaded or bevelled look to them. Now they almost look like black & white images from the 90's.
