A couple of months ago, I installed Cubase LE 1.09 on my Mac Powerbook G4. There were many frustrating hassles with getting it to set up and run, and meanwhile, I got distracted by a video project which came with its own set of problems. That project is now complete, so I got back to Cubase. I recorded some tracks on Garage Band, mixed them to aif, and then imported then into Cubase. That part went fine; I cut and pasted and edited, and that all went well. When I tried to do a mixdown, I got a message, "export file failed". Over and over; I tried aif, wav, mp3, all with the same result. Any ideas what's causing this? The project is; I recorded an instrumental piece, and dedicated it to president-elect Obama. It happens that I finished the recording of the song, and realized that his inauguration was about to happen, so I turned the microphone around towards the radio, and caught the address. It's one of my favourite speeches ever. I then broke it up into segments, and matched it to the instrumental, and it fit as if it had been pre-arranged! The speech has not only a good message, but a cadence which lends itself well to such a treatment. Where he repeated "On this day"... and then "For us"... I copied those soundbites and pasted them in as rhythmic bits. It didn't take much genius on my part, it came pre-ordained. Anyway, I can't show anyone else this, unless I haul my laptop around. I'd like to export it as a wav or aif.

It wasn't any TOO obvious though, how to set (and reset) the locaters. Here's an Homeric DOH! I'm soon to be a Cubase user!

In what circumstance would that be useful? No other program I've used would allow this; at least, there should be a popup box that says something like, "Locaters reversed; are you SURE this is what you want?" </kvetch>

If you reverse the locators, Cubase will skip the range on playback. However, that is of no use if you want to mixdown, so a warning would be useful. (Knowing something about programming, skipping the range when locators are reversed was probably an unintended side effect that they decided to keep, not a feature according to specs.) But I agree, there should be an informative error message when attempting mixdown. CubaseFAQ page: http://www.laurencepayne.co.uk/CubaseFAQ.htm

I might have twigged to the problem if it did. It played back fine, but wouldn't mix. Oh, well, now I know. I'll soon have a mix online, and will do my next project in Cubase from the get-go.
