Hello, It has been brought to our attention that there are several discussion sites serving as Cakewalk User forums on Google Groups and Usenet. Please be aware, the only official Cakewalk-sponsored forums can be found here: http://forum.cakewalk.com/default.aspx. Also, any claims being made that Cakewalk is discontinuing its official forums are untrue. If you have any questions, or would like to join the official Cakewalk forums, please come to http://forum.cakewalk.com/default.aspx. Thank you, Cakewalk Management

Wots this then? It says Cakewalk is closing the official NNTP newsgroups. <g> ------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: <Cakewalk> Subject: Cakewalk web forums are here Date: Wed, 5 Nov 2003 17:04:54 -0500 Lines: 45 X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1158 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2800.1165 Message-ID: <SBUNfi#> Newsgroups: product.proaudio,Product.Project5,product.pyro,product.sonar,product.studio mix Path: WIN10330.iad.dn.net Xref: WIN10330.iad.dn.net product.project5:2959 product.pyro:608 product.sonar:228817 product.studiomix:787 product.proaudio:8078 NNTP-Posting-Host: host-21-68-203-66.axsne.net 66.203.68.21 Greetings from Cakewalk! Cakewalk is pleased to announce that our new web based forums are now open at http://www.cakewalk.com/forum The existing NNTP based newsgroups will continue to accept messages through Friday, November 7. Following that, the NNTP newsgroups will be read-only until December 15, 2003, so you can continue to leverage the info posted there. Why the change? There is no doubt that the existing NNTP newsgroups have been a great place to learn about features, discuss hardware or get tips on making better music, or just hang out. The goal with moving to a web-based format is make them more enjoyable and more accessible to more people. Many of you have indicated that you prefer web based forums. Here are some of the reasons why: - No special software (e.g. Outlook Express or Agent) and configuration required. - Can read and post anywhere online, including locations that block NNTP. - Powerful feature to Search messages. - Control over the appearance of your messages. - Email notifications when someone replies to your post - Ability to link to/from specific forums or from anywhere on the web We understand that NTTP has few special tricks -- for example, reading messages while not connected to the internet. However you may want to try configuring your browser to cache forum pages for offline reading. Also, we realize web-based forums have a reputation for being slower. However we have invested in a fast server dedicated solely to running the forum and we believe you'll like the performance. On balance, no system is perfect for everyone, but we believe the web-based forums will provide the maximum benefit for the greatest number of customers, and is a big improvement. If you have any questions about this change, please check out our FAQ at http://www.cakewalk.com/forum/faq.asp Enjoy! Unfortunately, those don't support NNTP newreaders, and are painfully slow to scan compared to newsgroups. If/when you offer an NNTP interface, let us know. Those of you at Cakewalk long enough may recall that the main reason this newsgroup picked up in interest, after being pretty much a dead group when the official Cakewalk newsgroups were going, was because Cakewalk dropped the NNTP groups in favor of web-only. There are some web boards that also offer NNTP interfaces (Glenn Meadows' Mastering Board comes to mind). Unfortunately Cakewalk's is not one of those. Are you for real? Cakewalk kicked us Usenet fans out back in late 2003 so we came over here. Sure the group name says cakewalk but it's our own support community and anyone and most topics are welcome (except if it's BITCH) and no one here would ever claim it's an OFFICIAL site. And BTW, some of Cakewalk management actually have posted here over the years, so obviously this wasn't "just brought to your attention" in the past few days/months. > Also, any claims being made that Cakewalk is discontinuing its > official forums are untrue. I don't look at the forums that often anymore. I've posted there about 29 times since the kitchen split. Perhaps folks get better support somewhere else if there are rumors the forums are closing. Or just tired of the corporate attitude. Maybe it's Roland influencing things. <shrug> > Cakewalk Management <Bill Cosby> Are we on Candid Camera? </Bill Cosby> For the record, I'm still using SONAR (still on 8.3.1 but I have 8.5, just not using it yet) unlike a lot of this group now. If the group name could be easily changed, it would likely be reaper.audio by now. So now that I have written one of my longest posts ever, please go away and leave the best computer music support place I know of in peace. That's what I was assuming it was...why would CW suddenly be bothered about the kitchen splitters after all this time? If it *is* real and CW is actually reading this I will gladly tell them my thoughts on the official forum, how it's could be improved, etc. I post there. I also post here. So what? But, as I said, I think it's all a send-up.
First we lost our NNTP access through our ISP's. Lately we had trouble with Eternal September. Now Telesweet is down for the last two days. So this post *has to be* for real, as it proves Cake is systematically removing all our access to usenet groups, eventually we'll have no choice but to post in the heavily sensored web forum. Cake's kitchen was product.sonar, although they did originally have a cakewalk.audio on their servers too. It was a mis-configuration of their internal news server that allowed cakewalk.audio to peer with the outside world, and once it was in the wild, it became just another useNET group. -- Remove YourHeadFromYourAss to Reply by email ________ __ / ____/ /__ ____ ____ / /_ ____ / / __/ / _ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \ / /_/ / / __/ / / / / / / /_/ / /_/ / \____/_/\___/_/ /_/_/ /_/_.___/\____/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- Glennbo http://www.soundclick.com/glennbo Non-Linear Sound http://www.soundclick.com/jambits Hear My Music http://www.soundclick.com/ThePseudonyms

Internet Exposer isn't "special". Outlook Express *IS* special! <g> No special account is needed with NNTP, but is with the web forum. - Can read and post anywhere online, including locations that block NNTP. Can have your posts edited or moved too! I seen 'em do both over there. - Powerful feature to Search messages. Bwaaaaaahahahahahaha . . . <CatchesBreath> Bwaaaaaahahahahahahahahaha! The *POWERFUL* search feature over there can't find a post that was made five seconds ago, much less one that was made months ago. Notice how my inferior newsreader was able to instantly find the message from 2003 where Cake gave us a five day notice to get the fook outta their kitchen. -- Remove YourHeadFromYourAss to Reply by email ________ __ / ____/ /__ ____ ____ / /_ ____ / / __/ / _ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \ / /_/ / / __/ / / / / / / /_/ / /_/ / \____/_/\___/_/ /_/_/ /_/_.___/\____/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- Glennbo http://www.soundclick.com/glennbo Non-Linear Sound http://www.soundclick.com/jambits Hear My Music http://www.soundclick.com/ThePseudonyms

This is evidently Roland/Cakewalk Management, and they've never heard of us, the kitchen, or the great split of '03, where their heavy handed marketing fractured a thriving tech community for a shiny web thing. -- Remove YourHeadFromYourAss to Reply by email ________ __ / ____/ /__ ____ ____ / /_ ____ / / __/ / _ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \ / /_/ / / __/ / / / / / / /_/ / /_/ / \____/_/\___/_/ /_/_/ /_/_.___/\____/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- Glennbo http://www.soundclick.com/glennbo Non-Linear Sound http://www.soundclick.com/jambits Hear My Music http://www.soundclick.com/ThePseudonyms
