I got Cubase 5 last week and have been playing with it for the last
couple of days. I havn't had time to work anything up from scratch yet
but I was pleased that both SX3 and C4 projects loaded without
problems. That means I can complete a couple of songs using the new
version. I've been looking at some of the new features...obviously I
havn't found them all in two days but I've had a taster.

The interface gets better and I'm not having any real problems here.
    They've finally given us a virtual keyboard...something that should've
been there right from the start. Great if I'm on the move and havn't
    got a controller to hand.

The extended Halion repertoir is very good...that will give me most of
the more general instruments I need without having to load up other
plugins, though I won't be paying extra for the Symphonic
Orchestra...that would be a waste of money given that there's a wealth
of stuff out there already that will do the same or similar.

The pitch correction tool looks promising...a bit like Melodyne The
other extra plugins look good too though I need more time to play.

As for the new Vsti's...hmm...well, GrooveAgentOne (I would have
thought they would've gone for a new name), this doesn't impress me at
all. I already have XLN's Addictive Drums and Toontracks EZ Drummer
both of which are leagues ahead and easier to use imo. Loopmash...I
just had a look at a video on Youtube which gives an idea of what the
game is here cause I couldn't make any sense of it at all. I doubt
very much that I'd ever use it but I can see why it may well be
popular. I have a feeling that this area has already been covered way
back with the likes of Fruity Loops, Reason and others but I may be
    wrong...I usually am!

Its early days for me but C5 hasn't frightened me off. Best of all it
installed (on XP32) without any problems. Hoorah!! All I need now is
    some inspiration. Pass the gin....

When's Cubase 6 out?!!.....think I'll post a request for it on one of
the warez groups and wait for the flames to roll in!!!.......LL

    Hi Terry,

I'll check that one out later on tonight and report
back...that is assuming my dongle gives me no more trouble. I do hope
we arn't going to find a whole load of new bugs. That would be
unforgivable. My system had been working great until the update.

    I'll let you know...............LL

C5 looks really good...I reckon I just got really unlucky with this
dongle business. I did read of several others on steinberg.net who'd
also had similar problems, but no immediate solutions on offer.
Hopefully the replacement dongle will be with me soon. It ought to be
easy to transfer the license between the 2 keys(!!) If that doesn't do
the trick then I really don't know what I'll do. I've tried everything
except a full Windows wipe and reload.

Meanwhile I have a copy of LE4 which came bundled with some kit or
other...(its the only recent version of Cubase that doesn't need a
dongle). That'll keep me going if inspiration strikes...I actually
rather like this stripped down version..hmmm...LL.

So far I have been o.k. and I'm on a old single CPU 2.5 Ram....and running
    out of HD.
I can't afford the down time in the studio at the moment.
The only weird thing is that weird tempo setting thing. C5 has been rock
    solid so far.
Good luck with the Dongle that always worries me if it goes out and you have
    to wait a few days
    for a new one.
