I used my new GR-20 yesterday for the first time in a public performance. I play about twice a month with a worship team in church. Most of the music is contemporary with a few traditional hymns thrown in. I've been playing mostly bass and a little keys until now. I got the GR-20 to give more variety, and because I'm not a "real" bass player (and don't really like playing it). So, of the five songs we did, I used organ (#16...great sound), wood bass, slap bass, vocal chorus, and strings. The unit worked great (mounted on an Epiphone Les Paul Custom, white with gold hardware). Playing through a bass amp with 18" speaker really helped give a nice, full sound. I don't think the 200 or so people in the audience knew anything was different until we did a song with strings, and then the vocalists dropped out and left just me and the piano player. I could see some faces out there wondering where the violins and cellos were. Anyway, the GR-20 has excellent sounds in it and is very usable for live performance. If you've been thinking about getting a guitar synth, this would be a good time to give it a look.
