Hello. I purchsed a k2000R on ebay recently and wanted to know if
anyone out there can help me with some upgrade info. My first question
is does anyone know if k2500R PRAM and ROMS will work in a K2000R? When
I opened it up I noticed that the logic board says k2000/2500 on it.
Second, do I need the daughter board for a pram upgrade or is it only
for ROM? Third, is there any place that still sells k2000R upgrades
(rom/pram/sample option)? Everything I've found on google so far has
been K2500/2600. Fourth, what is the poing of sample ram in a unit
with no sample option? The unit I have has 64MB RAM but NO sample
option installed and when I load .krz files the amount of free pram
goes down but sample ram is untouched. I guess that's about it...

    Thanks,
    Jon

K2500 ROMS will work but I don't think the PRAM will.

    Only for the ROMs.

I don't believe Kurzweil make either the PRAM or the sample option any
more but there's probably some around. The ROM's we've already
    discussed.

IMHO, this is a WONDERFUL feature. I've loaded samples from various
sources (pianos, organs, plain ol' WAV files found online, all kinds
of stuff) and play 'em back WITHOUT having the sampling option -- just
load 'em into the sample RAM. The only thing you need the sampling
option for is if you wish to make your own samples. But for playing
back pre-existing samples, you just need the RAM.

What that means is that the krz files you've loaded contain no samples
-- only programs that rejigger the native sounds & samples of the
instrument. But some krz files DO contain samples, and when you load
them your free RAM will go down as well. By the way, like most
sampling keyboards, the Kurz does NOT retain the samples when the
power goes off -- you'll need to re-load 'em.

    Good luck!
