Hi all,

I am a complete beginner in recording digital pianos. Saying that, I have purchased an Onyx Blackjack audio interface and would like to record my keyboard using Tracktion for PC.

The Yamaha NP-31 has MIDI in/out sockets and one headphone socket. My question is simply, what cables do I need to connect my keyboard to the Onyx Blackjack and where exactly do I connect them? I have searched for an answer but have had no luck, perhaps because the answer is obvious!

Thanks for any help.

For recording MIDI you require a USB MIDI Adapter Cable. No need for anything fancy. Cheap Chinese generic will work just fine.

Just remember to always connect MIDI IN to MIDI OUT and vice versa.

For recording audio you'll need an adapter cable that goes from the headphone outs on the keyboard to the XLR inputs on the Blackjack.

The 1/4" TS plugs should fit the holes in the middle of the XLR jacks.

One of these should work.

And for recording MIDI or Audio you'll need a DAW software.

Reaper and Anvil Studio are both popular free choices.
