    Hi all

    Me again

I'm trying to connect my Sound Canvas upto my SB sound card

1......I have connected the main lead into my sound card

2.....From the TWO leads that come from the SB card I have put the one marked OUT into the
    IN of the Sound Canvas

3....Started up Cubase VST32 then played a track

4....The sound came out of the sound card all ok BUT nothing happens in the sound canvas

5....I have looked at the help file for midi out ports etc but cannot find anything for the
    sound canvas

6 If I look in the midi track I can see out BUT when I click on it I cannot see any out
put for the sound canvas ONLY the sound card

What I want is to use the sound canvas for my sounds and the sound to come form the sound
canvas and NOT the sound card.

What have I got wrong please

You won't see an entry for the Sound Canvas. Just for the MIDI port
it's connected to. This is what you need to select.

What is connected to the audio outputs of your Sound Canvas?

Which 2 leads? ...Not the audio ones I hope... It would have to be
midi out from the SB Live to midi in on your soundcanvas. As long as
you've got that right it should work I think........LL

Ha Ha Ha Ha I know I'm a dum blonde but I hope not that dum.

Yes I have taken the lead that came with my SB Live and connected it to the joystick/midi
    connector.
At the end of this lead I have two leads marked as midi out and midi in.

I have taken the Midi OUT from the SB and put it into the midi IN of the Sound Canvas

Well it does not, hence my post to here

I can load up Cubase VST/32 and all works fine with the sound card no problems

If I then make a new track and part and put some notes in the part under the OUT I can see
    "A:SB Live Midi Synth."

So in my dum way I thought I had to select the sound Canvas for the output BUT as I say I
cannot see any output for the Sound Canvas.

So is there any where I should alter/fine the sound Canvas output

BUT that is what I'm saying there is NO midi port ref to the sound canvas
I have it on port 330 or I can select 300

I have taken two audio leads from the back of the sound canvas and connect those to a
    powered speakers.

That all works fine as I have connected my Sound Brush to the Sound Canvas and I get midi in
    and sound out.

BUT as I say NOTHING from Cubase at all, not even any Midi in.

Is there anyway I can test the sound card to see If it is

    1....Getting the midi INPUT

2....If so is it sending it OUT

OR have I got it ALL wrong inside Cubase

This is the SBLive's built-in synth. You need something like "SBLive MIDI
    out" or similar

    Mary,

    As others have mentioned.

The interface port/name is the only thing that will show up in port
connections area, the MIDI module the port is connected to will not
    show up.

Also... VST32 has an aux program to help setup MME MIDI ports, it's in
the same directory as VST32. Surprisingly... it's called setupmme.exe

It will let you activate/deactivate and rename your MIDI ports.

Let me see... you're using Cubase 5.xx right?

If you want MIDI to go to the SoundCanvas select the

SB UART OUT, or SB Live MIDI OUT as the output for that individual
    track.

You know where that is, right. The Tracks have a listing at top that
    reads:

    TRACK CHN OUT

The out section of each track channels MIDI to whatever device you
have setup on the PC. (use the setupmme.exe prgram to arrange your
    ports in order.

    Hi Ap

WOW what a detailed answer, even a dum blonde can follow it :))

Thank you very much, I have it all setup and working now.

Yes it was the "SB UART OUT" that did the trick.

    Many thanks

    Hi Lance

Do not worry, I have been called a lot worse, also done a lot more stupid things.

Like on one gig one of the Tech came to me and said would you hold that bit of wire for me a
    second

After a few min's he came to me and said did you feel anything, I said no I did not.
He then said to me did you not feel a pratt standing there holding that wire.

    See what I mean Lance

See, I don't believe the "dum" bit for one moment! :)

Although the "hold this wire" story made me laugh.

I couldn't temember if the SB drivers included that or not.
A UART is the hardware serial chip on the SB card, I always felt
these had better timing than the USB MIDI interfaces.

Yeah - only too well...I remember having a problem with my bass amp
at a gig one night...I decided on the diy approach, got the
screwdrivers out, and took the mains lead apart at the amp end...it
was still plugged in....bang!!!....instant perm!! The guys thought it
was hilarious....lucky I'm still here to tell the tale!!......

.....or the night I was doing the sound for a band who were using midi
backing tracks...I lept up on stage during the show to sort out a
minor problem and tripped over a mains lead thus disconnecting it...It
would of course have to be the one powering all the midi stuff...he he
    he!!............LL
