Last time I posted a question in the newsgroups, some people got angry
because I cross posted in a few different groups. Just to let everyone
know, I've posted this question in other newsgroups because I need an
answer quickly - I'm due to go out and buy the card tomorrow!

There are no onboard sounds with the Audiophile, it is an Audio card
only, although it does have a built in MIDI interface for use with a
    keybord or MIDI modules.

    Direct to Hard Drive Recording????

If you were recording audio (guitar, voice...etc) with the
Soundblaster, you were already doing direct to disk recording.

Do not purchase anything at this time, you are unclear on what you
    want/need.
