You know what just struck me? It is already late September, and I haven't
noticed anything, not even speculation, about the typical annual SONAR paid
upgrade that is, typically, announced right about now. If I remember
correctly, last year about this time we'd been swimming in the "new feature
a day" stuff for awhile, and, in fact, I just checked and noticed it is
exactly one year since I plunked down my credit card to order the SONAR 8.5
update. I'm thinking it was immediate availability for the download, too.

I even just tried searching around the net a bit, and looking directly in
the Cakewalk forums, to see if maybe we might just be missing out on the
rumors in our little hole in the sand, but there was really nothing. In
fact, the one forum post I found that seemed relevant indicated neither
Cakewalk nor Roland were listed in this Fall's AES exhibitor list (and I
    just confirmed that is true).

Not that I was in a hurry or anything. SONAR 8.5 is doing just fine at the
moment. I do tend to get excited to see what new toys might be coming my
way, though. Maybe in time for a Christmas present? :) I guess more
likely might be timed for Winter NAMM, or maybe the release in time for
Christmas and a first update by NAMM. Or whenever... :)

They decided to let a version that is finally stable after a year's worth
of updates remain the current version for a little while longer before
releasing the next gen extremely buggy version that will supercede it and
need a year's worth of updates to also become finally stable. ;)

Roland - all pay homage - has got true class. They probably aren't
going to do the old business as usual with rushing to market like
    things used to be.
