OK here's the deal. I need something sacrificial to leave on my
sailboat. I want to run it with my maudio controller and it needs to
be a low power consumption thing too. I'm taking some time off to go
sailing and just need sounds. My latency on the computer makes it near
impossible to play with any accuracy.

Thanks for the ideas. ........... Oh, all I really need is one piano
sound but other stuff would be fine too.

I suppose you could pick up a used Roland JV-1010 for a song somewhere.

    Excuse the bad pun.

    Happy sailing,

    Jos.

You can pick up a used Roland U220 for under $100...perhaps with some
extra pcm cards. Despite it's age, the onboard timbers are all very
useable. Not the friendliest to edit, but once you get the logic, it
    does get easier.

WOW, both of those names are ancient memories. I had forgotten about
both - thanks Jos and Cyber.

I'll just look on ebay for one of those.

If I might add: the U-220 had buttons that would age very poorly (as
far as my experience with my U20 taught me).
It might not be your first choice when buying a second hand expander.
This said, the sounds were very usable, truly.

Any decent sound will do and I will likely through it away when the
trip is over. I just need something small to put on a boat. Thanks
    again for the heads up

I've heard that of the U20 (though IIRC, it was the keys not the
control buttons that would go south), but my rackmount 220 is rock
solid...resetting to factory was a chore (had to replace the battery),
but everything works perfectly...picked it up for $65 Canadian with 2
PCM cards (Woodwinds (6) and Latin Perc (2))...A couple of dials would
have made cruising the menus easier than cycling with up and down
arrow buttons, but once you get used to it, it isn't too bad. First
    choice...naw...but cheap as dirt..yeah!

Or an old Yamaha MU-80. 32 midi channels can be quite handy.

That would do fine if you want a chance to pawn it off on someone.
They sucked but are perfect for what I want. Hell, and FB01 would work

Where are you? What do you want for it?? If you do want to sell it,
reply to me back channel and I'll give you a call. I have a fedex
shipping account so I'd bet it would only cost me between 7-10 bucks.

Have you tries ASIO4ALL as a cure for your latency issues? May not
    need the expander then.

I don't know what that is..... I'm good at the music but God forbid I
ever have to reinstall anything :)

As for the issue, I fixed it with buying a Yamaha p80 keyboard
yesterday! Got it from a guy on CL for $200 so I'm happier then a
    tornado in a trailer park.

    Thanks

Good show...the p80 (and p200) is a nice keyboard if, as you
indicated, you primarily want the piano sounds...the harpsichord is
nice too, but the bass sucks (IMHO).

Well, congrats. But to be fair, I didn't realize you needed a keyboard
as well on board, or I wouldn't have suggested a sound module.

    Have fun,

I have 3 bass guitars when I want a good bass sound so I'm good on
    that one :)

YEs, I think I scored well on this acquisition. All I wanted was a
practice piano and something small to take on the sailboat. Truth is,
after having it out and playing it, I like it I don't mean it will
replace my piano but I think I'll start dragging it off to gigs
instead of my Roland RD300. I pretty much need a crane these days to
lift the sucker and I like the action on this better. I have a Yamaha
S08 too and that is light but driving it is a bit like driving a space
shuttle. I don't know why companies have to cram so much stuff into
one box that you need a PHD to make it work. I'm a musician for crying
out loud. That means I don't like to study too much :)

You were right to suggest boxes because I suggested I use the
controller. I was planning on using a M-Audio controller. The thing
feels like crap so I'm much better off this way. I just got lucky when
    I found this.

I appreciate your input just the same
