I'm running a Dell 2.8 GHz desktop with 1 gigabyte of memory and a Turtle Beach sound card. I ordered and received an M-Audio 1010LT card for it, but after reading some of the comments about it and paying attention to the explosion of spaghetti shown in the picture, I am thinking about sending it back. It is unopened. The question is, since I already have a Behringer mixer that I can plug into the line in/out ports of the soundcard, is there anything near the price range of the one I'm sending back ($220USD) that would represent a substantial improvement over what I have? TIA Ed Cregger

<Doubt it - Ed is a good guy> Ed is a troll. Are you just too young and dumb, or completely naive and stupid to have not realized that by now? M-Audio's products are excellent, and being the owner of seven (7) Delta 1010's I can tell you that they not only sound great but perform great and have constantly updated excellent Windows and Mac drivers. Ed Cregger is panty waste, so any comments from his blighted mouth should also be presumed to be like pigeon shit on the English language. TP

Anyone that wants to see who I really am can read all about it any time they want. In that context, you and your cakewalk.audio butt-buddies look like utter morons. Google doesn't lie. Ed Cregger

I am borderline manic depressive (two of my brothers are confirmed manic depressives), with occasional excursions into the "High" zone. I take medication to control it, but if something really stressful comes into my life, I "lose it" for a while. That is what happened. Thankfully, it doesn't happen that often and most of the time I'm just plain old ordinary obnoxious. Other times I can be a pip. I harm no one. I do not steal, rape, assault, molest or harm society in any other way. I think women should be paid equally for equally performed work. I've never served time, haven't received a traffic violation in thirty years and was only arrested once for disturbing the peace (the police claimed our band was too loud on New Year's Even at a local pub). The complainant dropped the charges. I pay my bills. My credit rating is good. I'm a terrific consumer. I have served in the military and received an honorable discharge. I'm even stable enough to have a concealed weapon carry permit. What more could society expect from an individual? Hell, I even served on jury duty several times instead of weasling out of it like some folks. I love pets. I feed the birdies through the winter and I even thank God for giving me my miserable life. Now, WTF more do you want? I apologized. Don't you people forgive and forget? Ed Cregger

The real answer is to ask yourself what inadequacies you feel with your current rig. For me sometimes this boils down to "I haven't bought anything in 6 months" rather than any real need. The way you asked your question it is impossible to determine what you are going for. I have a friend who worked for IC Ensemble that made the chip that goes on the PCI interface card (IC E was bought out by VIA). He lent me a 1010 prototype board before I bought my Delta 66. It was nifty but I have NEVER needed more than stereo inputs other than transferring some 4-track tape recordings from days of old. My audio rack consists of fewer and fewer outboard synths and fx (only one of each left, well OK the Alesis D-4 too but that's likely to go the way of the dinosaur or earn its keep as a trigger input). Maybe a Delta 66 is more your speed. But what do you NEED? The back of my rack has a lot of spaghetti too, once it's set up I generally forget about it. ========================================================================== As far as (now) predictable hostile responses from OF and TP, etc., I suggest you learn how to use a killfile in your newsreader. Those guys are never going to help you and the less you engage them in useless back and forth the better this ng will be for it. Just let them continue to show themselves in their true colors but I'd ignore it if I were you. If you use Google which doesn't support killfile plonk etc. then you are just going to have to control your urges to hit back. Or not, but don't be surprised at the response.

I think you just nailed the problem. I don't really know enough to know what I need. I'm just afraid of making another mistake, although this stuff isn't as expensive as say buying the wrong Harley, only to find out another model would have been perfect. Since I made my query on the newsgroup, I noticed that Same Day Music is selling the Omni/66 for the same price as the 1010LT I'm returning, so I ordered that. Now I'll ship the 1010LT back. It appears that the stores do not want to have a lot of old inventory in stock with the old brand on the box, hence the steep discount. With my luck, I probably jumped from the frying pan into the fire, but it's only $220. You are right about the kill file. I'll not respond at all. Thanks for the help in thinking this thing out. Believe it or not, you have helped. Ed Cregger
