I have (finally) upgraded from Cubase SX2 to 5. I notice a number of things are done differently now. Two of these peculiarities combined caused me to send a hopelessly wrong file to a customer yesterday. It went like this: I had made a final mix, which I then processed in another program. I then import the output of that program back into Cubase, mainly to keep track of things, and to turn it into an mp3 to mail to the client. 1) Importing an audio file does not always put it on a fresh track. In this case, the file landed on a track that already contained audio clips, and had already lots of inserts and sends assigned to it. That's fine, in SX2 this was no different. However:- 2) Moving the imported audio event to a new, empty track (dragging it with Ctrl pressed) cause the fader settings, inserts and sends to be copied to the new track. This may occasionally be what you want (although I'd use duplicate track for that), but in this case it shouldn't have happened. It didn't do that in SX2, I'm sure. Being somewhat in a hurry, I solo'ed the new track, exported an mp3 and sent it off to the client, only discovering this morning that the unwanted sends and inserts settings had been applied twice. Now the high heavens didn't fall or anything, but it is annoying anyway. I felt stupid and had to apologize. Is there a preference for this? Moving audio to new tracks is so second nature to me that I don't think I want the track settings silently duplicated, or at least I want to be offered a choice. Or is it something else in the workflow that I should have done differently? Thanks for your thoughts. Jos. -- Ardis Park Music www.ardispark.nl
