It ought to be easy to mount the Syncrosoft usb dongle internally on a
pc, but has anyone here managed to do so with a laptop? Its just an
idea, but I hate having to carry the thing around - I'm fearful of
losing it or snapping it off - breaking the dongle and/or the usb
port....I've just resolved one dongle issue via a rather painful and
time-consuming process and I'd love to bury the damn thing somewhere
inside my notebook so I can forget about it. Ideas
    anyone?............LL

Put the whole thing into a larger case?

Well, a friend of mine (actually a Logic user, but also needs to carry a USB
dongle) uses a simple aluminum suitcase, into which he puts his ibook, power
supply and the dongle. If necessary, also an external HD and some print
notes for the recording session. Not necessarily cheaper than what you
linked, but a more easy to find alternative.
Anyway, Lance rather wants something that he can even insert inside his
notebook´s case, which will probably be more problematic. If it were a
desktop/tower type case, the answer would be easy: use one of the on-board
connectors for external USB slots, put the dongle onto it, somehow fix it
onto the connector (maybe with hot glue or something like that) and mount it
somehow inside the case. With a notebook case, where there´s almost no space
left inside the case, things become a whole lot more difficult...

The main key is to pay real good attention when you pack up your stuff for
    out-of-home sessions...

Sorry, if I can´t really help, but I don´t really have a good answer to the
original question. If anybody else comes up with a good idea, I´m interested
    to hear/read about it.

It's not exactly ideal, but you can minimise the risk to your dongle
snapping or damage to your laptop's USB ports by using a flexible USB male
to female extension lead and at least that way you can put your dongle
somewhere that's relatively safe and out of the way. I use a variation on
this theme with one of the small cheap Teknika USB hubs from Tesco (about £7
GBP) and I mount a couple of Steinberg keys as well as an iLok key.

Thanks for the suggestions guys..I may consider a case though I think
the extention cable is probably my best option. My main concern is
    that I don't damage the dongle/port (I'm clumsy like that!!)...To do
surgery inside an already cramped notebook is probably not such a good
    idea.......LL
