I'm sure we all have this problem and each our own solutions but I really could use some help (tips from others about how they handle it, etc.). We've taken out most of the carpeting in our house except two rooms, one being the one my "studio" is in. It's Berber carpet which is better than shag but carpet is carpet. We also have central air and heat and no matter how great (HEPA, etc.) the filter stuff still gets through. It's almost ruined some of my equipment. When I was able to record regularly every thing got a good workout as well as a monthly routine of twisting every know, operating every switch, etc. a few times to keep the contacts as clean as possible. I know some things will need a good cleaning and some flat out fixing, my Delta Omni I/O for one, but no big deal. I know we've all tried covers. I even had someone sew custom covers for every piece but no matter how "tight" the fit stuff still finds it's way in there. I think I've mentioned this before but has anyone ever just put plugs, mic connectors (usually male) that aren't connected to anything into unused jacks? You could do this pretty cheaply since the quality of the connector wouldn't matter (as long as it was physically sound, tight fitting, etc.). This really appeals to me because the covering/uncovering every time you want to do something (even just to get down a quick sketch) is very time and energy consuming (especially in my condition). So I'd prefer to leave as much uncovered as feasible and just pull out these "fake" plugs, etc. whenever I needed access. I have a patchbay but the way I work nowadays (make that "when I work"): mostly in the box and a one-man-band there's not much call for that and just multiplies the jacks that need protecting. Anyone tried this or have any other neat ideas? Thanks, Ricky -- Thanks, Ricky Hunt

I use a cheep Behringer MX1608 mixer that I've had for 8 years. It has the stuff I actually use always plugged in and read to record at the drop of a hat. The unused channels are always unused. It is uncovered in my studio and collects lots of dust after a month or two, and I just vacuum the thing off with the soft brush attachment on my vacuum sweeper from time to time. I figgered that mixer would have been toast long ago, so I've definately got my money's worth on it, and there are no signs of invading dust causing it problems with scratchy pots or bad connection points to date. -- Remove YourHeadFromYourAss to Reply by email ________ __ / ____/ /__ ____ ____ / /_ ____ / / __/ / _ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \ / /_/ / / __/ / / / / / / /_/ / /_/ / \____/_/\___/_/ /_/_/ /_/_.___/\____/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- Glennbo http://www.soundclick.com/glennbo Non-Linear Sound http://www.soundclick.com/jambits Hear My Music http://www.soundclick.com/ThePseudonyms
