Keyboard and voice question

    Hi guys,

    I have heard on several occasions keyboardists singing into a microphone, and the keyboard modulating their voice, using what they are singing as the midi instrument choice.

    I'm wondering 2 things:

    1. What is this called technically?
    2. What are the best pieces of equipment one can get to perform this?

    Google "vocoder." Look at/listen to some Youtube clips. Post back if that's not what you're talking about.
