    Hi,

I frequently record a few bars of MIDI, then play back what I recorded,
then move on to the next bit. Let's say I have the locators 4 bars
apart, in loop mode, and when I'm done, I set them to the next 4 bars. I
notice that frequently Cubase records the notes that I play even when
recording is off. That's right: the red recording light is off, yet the
notes appear in the editor, and stay there as if recorded. And sometimes
even when playback is stopped, notes that I play appear in the editor at
random points in time (but between the locators).
This is of course very annoying. What sometimes helps is to stop
playback, rewind to before the left locator, and restart playback. But
that doesn't always help, and it's a nuisance. I noticed this behaviour
in Cubase 2SX, but I would imagine they had it sorted in Cubase 5.

This is obviously a bug. Does anyone recognize it? Is there anything
    that helps?

    Thanks,

    Jos.

    I Jos

Could it be the "retrospective record" function that you are mistaking
    for a bug?

You might look up "retrospective record" in the manual.

I it is indeed this function that's annoying you,
setting the Retrospective Record buffer to its minimum should help a lot ;-)
    (preference/record/midi)

    Tell us...

This sentence sounds a bit aggressive. I did'nt mean to be so :)

Thanks Huey. I know about retrospective record. I had it turned on,
however, I was under the impression that you had to manually recall the
notes played during playback, by pressing Shift+*. Instead the notes are
appearing of themselves as I play them.
Anyway I turned off retrospective record, and for now the notes no
longer get recorded, but then it wouldn't always happen before. So we'll
see. Thank you again. And no, I didn't take your advice as an act of
aggression, and I saw through your typo as well. No problem there:)
