Hi All I recently bought me a new system that has a Gigabyte GA X58 board and I'm wanting to know how to find out what voltage the PCI slot is. Looked in the manual and on the gigabyt site and can't see it listed. The reason I'm wanting to know is because I'm wanting to try and use my old Yamaha SW1k which I'm told need volts and I've heard that a lot of the newer boards are running at 3.3 volts. The thing is, if it was too lower a voltage I would have thought the card would not be detected at all by windows but it does show up in the device manager as a, "multimedia device" but I've not been able to install the drivers. This is windows 7 64 bit. I followed this guy's (http://www.ds2416.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=139) advice which is how I would normally install the drivers but to no avail. I guess I just want clarification that it's not the motherboard and that it's more likely a windows 7 or 64 bit issue since the yamaha drivers are at 32bit. A quick google turned up a couple of sites with specs on this mobo. According to those sites, the board has 2 PCI 2 PCI Express x1 1 PCI Express x4 2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Another quick google turned up the Yamaha SW1k is an original PCI card. One of the 2 original form factor PCI slots will work with that card if I can believe Mr. Google. Your issue is likely trying to run old drivers on Win7. 64 bit may or may not be a contributing factor since they're 32-bit. The last time I tried to get mine to run was on an Intel 915 P4 board and while it didn't blue screen it constantly locked up the system. It won't run on W7x64.
Thanks for that Sue I've just checked the site and found that revisions 1.0, 1.6 and 1.7 have 2 PCI slots but mine is the revision 2 and I wish I'd noticed that before hand. I'm surprised that they're making boards with so few PCI slots (and some now with none) when so many people are still using perfectly good PCI cards. They should make some kind of adapter that fit's into one of the other slots and can then house a PCI card on top. So you're saying that the PCI slot is going to be at 5volts and not 3.3? That would make sense as I don't think windows see anything there if it wasn't. I really don't understand how this guy could have got his card working in a 64 bit os as he claims. Looking at the guys claims of getting it running in windows 7 again I've noticed he hasn't said whether it's 64 or 32 bit but I'll wager it's the latter. I have it running on an asus P5Q though I guess they're not the newest of boards but and I know I had to lose the DSP factory as it didn't get on with the nvidia chip sets which my new board has. I could try installing XP on my new machine and see if it works. That should determine whether it's the board or not?
