My kid had been saving up for a bass, so this morning I took him to some
pawn shops along with a Fender six string acoustic I wasn't using and with
his money and my old guitar, we got him this brand new condition Squier
    Precesion Bass. http://members.cox.net/glennbopix/CollinsBass.jpg

After setting the intonation and action on it, I did this quick test with
it to see how it sounds recorded. Not bad for a kid bass. I might be
borrowing it sometimes to record with now that I've tweaked it out. ;)

Awesome! Has a nice, throaty sound to it. Was nice of you to donate the
your unused instrument to the cause.

I was glad we could get him a decent bass yesterday, and he was totally
stoked that I kicked in an old guitar so the deal could happen.

Sure, it's an added reward for working hard and saving, plus show's that Dad
is gonna be there for ya and sacrifice his prized Fender <dont tell him you
werent playing it!> for your happiness. I bet you get less of an argument
the next time you ask him to clean the gutters :)

Hehe, actually I first gave that Fender to my son. He didn't ever play it
because it was a real hard to play guitar. He gave it back to me, so I
gave it to my wife. She took it to her church gig, and it sat on a stand
for about a year when she gave it back to me. I threw it into the closet
and it's been parked there for about a year, so getting about a hundred
bucks credit out of it was a sooper deal for me. I couldn't *give* the
thing away because it was so hard to play. The guys in the pawnshop just
looked at the bluebook value of it. I'll definately get some mileage out
of the deal though with chores around the house! ;)

I had the same problem with my singer's fender acoustic, he knows 3 chords
and didnt want to bother with chord #4 and beyond. He gave it to me to try
to fix, but the best I could do was get it to where your fingers couldnt
accidentally slip between the strings and the fretboard when you tried to
play a barr chord. After looking around, I wasnt impressed with their lower
end acoustics. My Ovation practically lives at his house now just so that
he can have something to sing a melody over while writing.

The guitar has a *great* sound due to the all rosewood body and spruce top,
but for some reason, you had to press so hard to get it to fret, that it
would wear you out in short order. I'm glad to be rid of it, and glad my
kid has a good bass to learn on. He already picked out some things, and
was messing around with Roundabout, and a Seal song that has a busy bass.

I remember Ninjam when your son played the drums and you had the bass,
G'Bo, is that right? Try that again with your son on bass and see who
you guys attract. (I still really like that bit you recorded, with the
    unknown guitarist that dropped by.)

I'm away from home so I went looking for a cheap guitar that doesn't
totally suck and I ended up with a Yamaha FG700S It's easy to play and for
the 150 bucks I paid for it (on sale) I think it sounds great.

Yamaha makes some great acoustic guitars. I used to have a cheep FG-160
and it was way easier to play than the more expensive Fender I just dumped.
These days, if I want an acoustic to play on a song, I use the 1934 Gibson
L-00 that was my dad and uncle's guitar in the 30s. It plays like a dream
and sounds spectacular too. It's easily the best acoustic I've ever had
out of about ten different makes and models.

Yep, that was it. The funny thing about that jam is the fact that my kid
was in his own room with a little midi keyboard hooked up to his machine,
and I was in my music room with a bass plugged into my DAW. We were
curious to see how the "over the net" jam stuff worked, and then some
really good guitarist dropped into our online jam room for a bit.

Something Reaper can do called "Ninjam". You can hook up with other
players in other parts of the world, and jam, although it's not quite
    really real time.

Interesting. I never got too far into Reaper; things kept getting in

Well Phoenix, as most of us have found out, after you get past the intial
shock of everything actually making sense, it's easy to fall in love with.
