I just got a roland d-70 from my school band director because it didn't
work. When first turned on, it appears functional and the Roland logo
scrolls up, but when it goes to the main screen, it's scrambled at the
    top
where the name of the voice should be and at the bottom where the names
    of
other performances should be. All other screens that I've seen are fine
and so far I've tried resetting it to the factory settings but that
    hasn't
worked. I've changed patch levels and part levels, but it still makes no
sound except for the built-in demo. I don't know a lot about synthesizers
and I don't have any more ideas. The software is version 1.1.16

Robert, I also have a D-70 that "acts up" once in awhile. It will play fine
then suddenly the display screen goes blank. I can either reboot or hit the
exit button and it will usually be fine. When I first purchased it a few
years back, the weights on the keys went bad. I took it to the local Roland
dealer figuring a pretty good sized repair bill. To my surprise, they fixed
it for free, putting a whole new keyboard on it. This thing is over 15 years
old! The dealer said Roland really does try to take care of their customers.
Take it in for an estimate, you might get lucky too. Jeff
