So I decided to drop a DW bass drum pillow into my cocktail kick drum.

You can see it in the pic as well as hear a test of it in my latest bit,

It's kinda groovy, to make a bad pun.

My only critique would be regarding the production. The guitar and the
drums sound like they're in two different spaces. You need to glue them
together in way that creates the mental image of a common space.

    Otherwise, nice work.

Thanks for the input John! I took a wave of it and mastered it in
Soundforge, putting the whole band on stage at the Masonic Hall, and
using a multiband mastering limiter to even up the different ranges
    in the audio spectrum.

    Tanks mon!

After putting the pillow in the kick drum of my cocktail, it sounded
so much better that I wanted to record something with it. This toon
was the result. As usual, I was still unhappy with the level of the
snare on that kit, and last night I rigged up a second boom off my
overhead stand that now, puts the snare mic right on the snare. I'll
post a pic later when I get home. I did a quick test recording last
night, and it's going to work *way* better than how I had the snare
and rack tom mic'd before, which was also picking up the hihat way
too much, due to it's position.

Nice job of micing. I've always felt that was one of the toughest things to
    do.

Thanks Poly! Mic'ing real drums is a bit of work to get a decent sound.
Here's a pic of how the cocktail kit was mic'd for the above recording.
Notice the SM58 sticking out from under the hihat and pointed at the
snare. This was not picking up the snare to my satisfaction, and was
picking up way too much hihat.

Here's a pic of how the kit is mic'd now, with my additional boom
coming off the overhead stand which has another boom on it. The
next time I record with this kit, the snare is *not* going to be
    back in the distance!!! ;)

You did a great job dude!
I just hope the mic gremlins don't mess anything up. You know those guys.
You spend all day getting a good drum sound. Then you wake up the next day
and it just don't sound the same ;)

I'm a lot happier with the snare sound with the SM58 right on the
snare. I'll prolly record something soon with this new mic'ing
configuration. This last song started out as a simple drum test
since I put the DW kick drum pillow in my cocktail kick. I just
recorded a couple minutes of drums to a metronome, and later
decided to ass bass and a few guitars. ;)

    Thanks! :)

Getting the snare mic away from the top of the main cocktail drum
also improved the sound of the kick, and with the pillow in it,
it sounds like a normal kick drum. I'll be using this kit more
for recording, now that I'm getting it sounding more like a normal
    kit of drums.
