Where's the bass gone in the guitar solos? That section sounds a bit
    empty.

The vocals are nice - how'd you do that? I disagree with LP, the guitars are
    GOOD.

(Crash cymbals are a bit too loud to my ears.)

    Here's one of my sketches:

    http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7285480

It's not a song, it's a "piece" - it has more in common with my watercolors
    than anything else.

All in Cubase Studio 4. Instruments: Reaktor, SynCModular, Halion,
    Directwave. No FX plug-ins.

Thanks for listening Laurence...as I said the mix is a bit raw just
now...I'm not sure that the bass is missing on the guitar solos,
though I reckon that the solo guitar on the first song could maybe do
with some rythm guitar behind it..So said I don't want to make the
arrangements too busy. Work in progress........LL

    I love it....atmospherics. There's a real mood to your piece.Very
electronic though there's a kind of feedback sound in there which I
really like. Do please share some more...its really good. Its a
totally different genre to what I do but that's what its all about..

As for my stuff...the vocals are recorded fairly quickly. I use a
home-made booth in my studio...basically a big box within a box which
is carpet lined. Not exactly pro soundproofing but it does reduce the
volume enough to stop next door from listening in! Its cramped and it
aint ideal but it does the job. My vocal mic is an MXL condenser which
I bought amazingly cheaply on Ebay..a nice mic.

I do agree about the crash cymbals being a bit too loud..especially on
the first song...I'll do another mix shortly and hopefully get that
sorted...I'll let you know when its done....Cheers LL

I liked the songs, and really liked the guitars, esp. on the 2nd
    track.

Here are some tunes I've been involved with over the years - none of
them are via Cubase, because I just got it recently, and I'm already
two albums behind on posting this material. Most of these were
recorded in PowerTracks by PG Music, the Band-in-a-Box people. I used
it for several years, and was pretty well satisfied with it, but one
must move along with the times. Pardon me, if I'm being too off-topic
    spammy. http://www.DiddleyVision.com/music/DidVidmusic.htm

The next batch will be Cubased.

How'd you key in the 'theremin'? Yeah, I can imagine an abstract
watercolour video there. I sometimes come up with soundtrack pieces,
too, although they are more for romantic space westerns. Forbidden

Having just listened again to "Is There Anybody Out There", I hear a
similarity to Little Village. (Ry Cooder, John Hiatt, Nick Lowe and
Jim Keltner made a one-off album of great songs, well played) That's a
good thing, because that's one of my favourite albums.

I'm in it for the fun/obsession, too. I learned to play, because I had
tunes leaking out of my head. I learned how to record, because I
didn't want to toss my original songs before drunken swine in bars,
then I learned how to play several instruments because other musicians
were too busy playing in bars... Now, I have a roomful of equipment I
would have done embarrassing things to get when I was young and
dangerous... and little time to go in there and play/record.

The theremin sound is a 3 osc sine wave patch in a SynCModular ensemble
called SynDream (by Gabriel Landini) with lots of LFO modulation of pitch
    and FM.

SynC is one of my favorite tweakable softsynths and is rapidly becoming
unstable and unusable on my system. I will miss it a lot when it doesn't
    work anymore.

    hello,
I am going through a phase of hesitations about my own songs, and
reading your post distracted me from my doubts by listening to your
    productions...
English is not my language and perhaps is this why I feel you vocal
tracks sound somewhat blurred to me ? It sounds like you are not
confident enough in your singing ? (I wish I could feel more confidence
    in mine...)
Listening to the three tracks, the overall sensation I get is a lack of
clarity, they make me feel like I need a good deep breath afterwards. I
know this is not being very nice but it is the kind of remarks I tend to
ask for when I dare present my own work, so here it is ; positive
criticism would definitely include the overall instrumental balance, the
cohesion between instruments, the guitar work and the effective bass
    lines, etc.
    Congratulations,
    Olivier

    Hi Olivier,

Thanks for listening.. Your comments are appreciated
because they are constructive. I understand your critisism of the
vocals...I do have confidence in my singing, but it is sometimes
difficult to give the vocals the same kind of power as I would in a
live situation. Also it may simply be that my approach to singing
isn't to your taste. I sing rock n roll style which is, by nature, a
bit approximate. It has a loose feel to it which is intentional. But I
talke on board what you are saying...it may encourage me to give it a
bit more on my next efforts.

Do post some of your stuff...I love to hear what people
    are working on..............LL
