Noticed this a few days ago... audio and cafehaus gone from aioe...

Telesweet still not accesible either. No mention of it on the Telesweet
ISP website last I checked though.

Good ol' Eternal September is, well, eternal... sometimes...?

It seems that they have been doing some agressive housecleaning there.
I just requested that they add those two groups back. Well see how that
    goes...

All the free servers seem to be gone at the moment. Good thing I
setup a Google Groops account so I could post from my Blackberry. Cox
Cable is dumping their useNET servers as well, and sending out a
notice with some kind of "special deel" for Giganews.

I didn't even know they were down.

No response to my request at aioe. There are some other unanswered
    requests there, too.

Hopefully they will add the groops back in, even thought they are pretty
limited in the number of posts they allow.

They heard me! Both cakewalk groups are now back at aioe.

I don't use that server very often, but it's nice to have it as a
    backup.

I don't use it either, but because of the backup aspect of it, I have it
    setup and ready to go.

And Telesweet is still not usable -- so yes, thank you for getting our
groups back on the alphabet server. We may be down to just cheezy and
alphabet unless G'Bo can rustle us up some more free servers... (Google
news is a lst resort for me)

I say, pony up the ~$15 for individual.net. They're very reliable - in
the two years I've been with them I don't recall the service not being
available. For me it's well worth the small cost. And I still have the
big cheese and the little letters for backups.

Pardon my ignorance. I'm using news.eternal-september.org - is that cheesy or alphabet? I had
telesweet as my "backup" server - but (as stated above) I see that that's not working anymore. I
    need a new "backup" ;-)

cheezy (e.g. mozarella) = eternal september

Thanks for the technical info Sue. It's all coming back now - eternal-september used to be called
mozerella didn't it? aioe hasne worked for me in ages - I gave up on that along time ago...

So "cheesy" is the only free server that's working now? That's what I've been using, so I haven't
noticed that nothing else is working...

I can get a Giganews account for $2.69 a month as a special deal, since
Cox Cable is dumping their news server, but I also remember Terranews
being a one time fee of five bucks or something. I think they are still
around too. I'll have to look into individual.net as well.

Cool! I'm setting up an account with them now. Can't have too many ways

If anyone wants read-only access just to browse what groups are there,
how many posts are carried, accuracy etc. just use username readonly and
password readonly (those are documented in the FAQ on the site).
