Want to get my wife a blackberry for mothers day. I know nothing about this
stuff. What's the latest and greatest? Can you use it with Verizon?

    Thanks,

Verizon has the 8350 Curve for $29 with a contract extension.

    https://smartphones.verizonwireless.com/#/page|200/products|1000:2075

They also have the Tour 9630.

    https://smartphones.verizonwireless.com/#/page|200/products|1000:1893

The one thing that phone is missing is WiFi, which means you'd need to do
file transfers to/from the phone using either Bluetooth or a USB cable.

Droid has wifi but I don't use it for transfers; easier to just plug
    it in USB.

I just bought, downloaded, and transferred to my BB over WiFi this
way cool album that my bass player turned me onto at a gig last
night. "Interspirit" by Anthony Jackson / Yiorgos Fakanas.
I'm listening to it on my BB right now, and it's cool!

There are samples of the album here.

Speaking of music on BB (or Droid) I just got me one of these:
    http://www.jabra.com/Sites/Jabra/na-us/Headsets/Pages/JabraCRUISER.aspx

Spose to be able to play through car speakers or home stereo. I have
Pandora, Slacker, and last.fm on my Droid so it should be almost as
good as satellite radio if it works like I was told.

Speakerphone with FM transmitter. Very similar to the one I use in
my car for playing my BB music collection. This is the one I have.

I also have this windshield mount, that makes getting to it for music
an easy reach, and for using the built-in GPS stuff.

It limits the bandwidth to that of FM radio, which in the car is cool
since it's not a perfect listening environment. In my studio I use
    this Blackberry Bluetooth audio gateway.

    http://www.google.com/products/cata...ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CB8Q8wIwAg#ps-sellers

It doesn't have the compressed bandwidth of FM, since it is a pure
    Bluetooth device.

That's wierd, I was just looking at this on bestbuy's sales ad this morning.
I remember Glennbo telling us about his setup he has for his blackberry and
wondered how well this thing compares. My bluetooth headset is getting old
and the battery isnt holding a charge the way it used to, so I might just
redirect the funds I was going to use to replace it with this. I also just
upped my cell plan to the unlimited internet, so pandora will be a great
    option!

Ok, update! I stopped by best buy and picked up the jabra. After using it
for a few hours, this thing is extremely cool! I have to wait until Jan to
get a new phone on my contract, so Pandora is out of the question ATM, but
the mp3 streaming was pretty clean <as far as wireless FM transmitting
allows, but we've covered this>, so that takes the Zune out of the picture
for car use. The quality on the speakerphone is clean and clear. I used it
with the car stereo, as well as the built in speaker, and both sounded
great. The 8 people I talked to said that it sounded no different than when
I would call from the bluetooth or the phone itself, and this was with the
window open while driving. Definitely 80 bux well spent for me, especially
since I would have spent close to that on a new BT headset alone.

Cool! It probably pauses the music player when you're using the phone,
like my BB speakerphone does. It even pauses Pandora if I take or make a
call, which is cool. When the phone call is over, it picks the music
right back up where it left off.

Yeah, exactly. Well, I cant speak for pandora yet, but it does say it does

It should work with Pandora too if it pauses the music player.

Nuttin wrong with MP3s in the car. Pandora only gives you 40 hours of
*free* play time per month anyway.

I figured as much, just wish my stupid phone worked with it to see it in
action! If I wasnt such a cheepskate I'd just buy the droid, but it's $450
today, or $50 when my contract is up in jan. Since she'll want one too, I'd
rather save the 800 bux. I figure I'll just live with mp3's until then :)

LOL. Yeah, that's exactly what the guy at the sprint store said! The Evo
is coming out now, and by Christmas there will be something else to replace
    that. I've seen last.fm <on my xbox 360 I think> but never slacker, will
have to check that out. Maybe one of those will work on my phone now. Will
give it a shot today, thanks for the direction..

I still want a Palm Pre or similar model, but I refuse to pay $100/month
for cell phone in an area with spotty-to-no coverage! I already have
media players, what I want is a phone :) You know, the thing that can
make and receive calls? That's nearly impossible where I am unless
    you're on a landline/VoIP etc.
