    Hi

I've been given a PC-200 controller and an MT-32. Neither have power
supplies, and the instructions say to only use specific adaptors.

Has anyone used other (generic) adaptors successfully?
PC-200 calls for Boss ACA (DC in 9v 50mA)
    MT-32 says to use ACB-Series, 9v DC, 650mA.

What's special about ACA / ACB adaptors?

    Thanks,
    Mike.

Hi Mike. The MT-32 is a great sounding module! I've used generic
adapters many times. Including on my Roland and Boss equipment.
There are just a few things to pay attention to and all will be fine:

    1) AC/DC or AC/AC type voltage adapter - For these two, that would be
    AC to DC.
    2) Tip polarity: Tip Negative or Tip Positive - There's usually a
small graphic that show how the tip-ring orientation is.Really.
    3) Tip size. (I know. That's a no brainer.)
    4) Amperage rating - You can use an adapter that has the same
milliamp (mA) rating or higher. Higher is very OK. For the PC200 -
50mA or more. For the MT32 - 650mA or more.

I don't know what Boss means by their ACA and ACB nomenclature. You
don't have to worry about it as long as you address the above issues.
    I'm sure of that.

There's just one thing I'd add to Ru's comments: Make sure the store will
allow you to return the power supply without penalty if it isn't suitable.
Many generic power supplies allow AC hum through to the DC side, where
you'll hear it in the sound module's audio output. If you hear hum, try
    another brand of power supply.

BTW, in addition to my Alesis QS8.1, I'm still using my Roland MT-32, JX-
    8P, TR-505 and D-110.

Thanks for that addition, Jim. A very important point!
