Hi folks, I am on the verge of purchasing an RD-300SX and am clearing up some last minute implementation details. I need to get this keyboard to do something that it is specified to do [1]. That is I would like to be able to get it to send a MAIN Volume control signal to MIDI out (CC #7). I need to do this when using the RD-300SX as a Master control keyboard using either a slider on it's front panel, or the expression pedal.. FWIW I have been able to configure the expression (control) pedal (an EV-5) so that it causes 'Expression' Control messages to be sent (CC#11), but this option does not allow you to send CC#7. I have tried the obvious option of the main volume slider , but this doesn't send CC #7. If you have done this, please let me know how. I am very keen to purchase this keyboard because of the new lightweight hammer action (that is only also present on the FP-2) regards Peter [1] The MIDI implementation chart of the RD-300SX manual indicates that CC #7 (Main Volume) can be transmitted and received. Additionally Roland's official FAQ on this keyboard http://tinyurl.com/cwbum says that it can be done (but doesn't say how). "The RD-300SX allows you to send the following MIDI control messages: --Bank Select MSB (CC #00) --Bank Select LSB (CC #32) --Program Change --Volume (CC #7) --Pan (CC #10) --Reverb Send (CC #91) --Chorus Send (CC #93) --MIDI Channel"
OK I have found out the answer. It was necessary to set the MIDI Tx mode to Mode 2 (rather than it's default mode 1) as shown on p. 46 of the manual. This causes additional control messages to be sent via MIDI out. Then by sliding the Zone level sliders (not Main or Expression pedal) the RD-300SX sends out CC #7. regards Peter
