Looks very good, I'll give > it a go tomorrow! Thanks for the heads up. I booted up in Windows 7 and decided to get most of my plugs authorized so I could see how the performance is compared to Windows XP. So far, I am not impressed, as running my Delta ASIO at 64 samples pops and clicks. I turned off the indexing service, and that made no difference. It runs fine and makes no pops if I increase the latency, but I'm not into doing that. The other Win7 things I don't like are that it doesn't remember from one boot to the next that I re-tasked the microphone input to be line input for the onboard audio. Every time I boot, I have to re-task it again. The other thing that bugs me is that Dolby 5.1 decodes on shows that are uncompressed Transport Stream HDTV, but don't when I compress to DivX. Both those items work fine in XP. It's looking more like my $50 copy of Windows 7 will be going on the machine in my bedroom, which is a single task computer, doing only Beyond TV as a client. Oh well, if I do install it on that machine, I'll also stick a TV tuner card in it, so it can utilize the Media Center stuff as well. -- Remove YourHeadFromYourAss to Reply by email ________ __ / ____/ /__ ____ ____ / /_ ____ / / __/ / _ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \ / /_/ / / __/ / / / / / / /_/ / /_/ / \____/_/\___/_/ /_/_/ /_/_.___/\____/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- Glennbo http://www.soundclick.com/glennbo Non-Linear Sound http://www.soundclick.com/jambits Hear My Music http://www.soundclick.com/ThePseudonyms

LOL!!!! Sonar can't either. But at least Reaper is trying -- Sue Morton "kitekrazy" <> wrote in message news:h686b2$utg$-september.org... > Sue Morton wrote: >> Me too, VERY convenient and friendly. I spent a couple of hours last night trying to get a simple five-track MIDI to play in Reaper without locking up my machine. I did eventually succeed but AFAIK I did nothing differently than I did in every previous attempt. So I'm not at all sure why I finally got it to work or what was wrong that caused my problems. I don't have the time to spare right now, to explore and attempt to find root cause, unfortunately. I tried a couple of free 3rd party VSTi synths that support SF2 format: sfz free (both the one that comes with Sonar as well as the previous version last free one rcg audio offered on their site before they folded) and VSTSynthFont (from the fellow that created the exceptional stand-alone SynthFont player). Same MIDI file and all three VSTi's work and play just fine in Sonar 7. And of course the TTS-1 works fine in Sonar too. I have not tried the TTS-1 again in Reaper. Maybe later. My machine locked up fully when using the VSTi's interfaces to change parameters, load soundfonts and banks etc. in Reaper. Big red switch time. Because I have error reporting enabled for all programs, I would first get the pop-up (paraphrased) "Reaper has closed -- send report to Microsoft" and as soon as I clicked yes the entire machine was off the air. Oh I also tried ReaSynth, even though it is not a soundfont player, it comes with Reaper so it should work, right? Nope. I did have less trouble with ReaSynth but still had it lock up my machine several times too. Machine had been rebooted right before I started this test, so long OS uptime was not the issue. This machine is rebooted nightly anyhow. XP Pro SP3 32-bit with nearly all hotfixes from m$ update. Core 2 Duo 3ghz (E6850's) and 2G DDR3 ram, 1333 memory and FSB. Very stable and fast machine overall, and Sonar is very stable, works quite well except for the bugs that aren't fixed yet... Once I got the MIDI to play, using sfz, I found that many of the controller commands are not handled correctly by Reaper. Sonar and sfz handle them fine, so it is not sfz. (both versions). So while the MIDI implementation in Reaper is definitely making great advances, and there are many nice new features in this release, it still has some way to go in some very basic handling of MIDI. Ping Steve Karl: Any interest in chiming in over on the Reaper forums yet? Your input would be very valuable to MIDI development in Reaper, if you've got the time... -- Sue Morton "Glennbo" <> wrote in message news:Xns9C68743115D04BrownShoesDontMakeIt@69.16.185.247... > > New version is up with lotsa nice tweaks. I use SFZ, Vsampler, and even Livesynth Pro in Reaper all the time and never have even a hiccup. I even have used the TTS-1 in several projects with no problems. The TTS-1 only has the first stereo outs exposed in Reaper (rather than all four stereo outs), but that's never been a problem for me as I tend to use it for things like horn sections, which are ok coming out stereo. -- Remove YourHeadFromYourAss to Reply by email ________ __ / ____/ /__ ____ ____ / /_ ____ / / __/ / _ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \ / /_/ / / __/ / / / / / / /_/ / /_/ / \____/_/\___/_/ /_/_/ /_/_.___/\____/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- Glennbo http://www.soundclick.com/glennbo Non-Linear Sound http://www.soundclick.com/jambits Hear My Music http://www.soundclick.com/ThePseudonyms
I had trouble with program changes, bank changes, portamento, pedal up/down, tempo sweeps. I'm using GM standard commands only. They all work as they should in S7 from same midi tracks. I verified using the Event Lists in Reaper and in S7 that the midi "appeared" to import correctly, so unless the displays are incorrect in Reaper, that was not the issue. -- Sue Morton "Glennbo" <> wrote in message news:Xns9C697F8D9F21ABrownShoesDontMakeIt@69.16.185.250... > What controller commands are you referring to? I always use SFZ in a single instrument configuration, so I never send it any bank or patch changes, and I don't have a pedal on my keyboard controller. I just recorded this using three instances of SFZ, and three midi tracks driving one instance of a TTS-1. I'd like to see Reaper become very solid and dependable on the GM standard first, then see where they take it from there And I'd like to see Reaper get more solid handling VSTi's and DXi's, all my crashes with Reaper are nearly always due to some plug, that works in Sonar (was not shipped with Sonar). -- Sue Morton "Glennbo" <> wrote in message news:Xns9C69951AA879DBrownShoesDontMakeIt@69.16.185.247... > I always use SFZ in a single instrument configuration, so I never send > it any bank or patch changes, and I don't have a pedal on my keyboard > controller.

That's probably true for a lot of folk. Nonetheless, the support is needed I think. > I generally avoid DXi's, although there are two or three that I don't have > the equivalent of in VSTi, so I still use them from time to time. All the crashes last night were with VSTi's, I didn't use a DXi. Bottom line. IMO the MIDI aspects are still flakey. Just because some people don't run into problems, doesn't make that issue any less valid for those that do. The program shouldn't lock up or lock up Windows completely. I hope the Reaper developers recognize and agree with that -- and address it. -- Sue Morton
