I'm still waiting on the sidelines to hear all there is to hear about
    Sonar 5.
I would like to hear any comments or insights from those of you who have
it, installed it, and worked sessions with it.

    > What is the CPU warning about?

On Sonar4 that song was getting so busy that I had to set the latency
slider to 100ms to mix it. When I loaded it up in Sonar5 to grab that
screen shot, I had the latency slider set to 10ms, and didn't even notice
the CPU warning, because the song was playing back totally fine. And that
was with a web browser, email, newsgroups, and a paint program running at
the same time. It wasn't until I already had the screen shot up that I
noticed the CPU meter. That's when I checked S5 and found that I had done
all that with the latency at 10ms. Sonar5 never hiccuped once while all
    that was going on.

I've been running on w2k for about a week. I have only blown up at 2
places. 1) I added some of those ICONs to my tracks, as soon as I saved it
POW! Blew up. I did this more than once. I would like to know if you can
add track icons and save them, might just be my system???? 2) playing with
V-Voice. I played with it for a while then blew up I think going back to
Sonar form a V-Vocal edit. It was a small edit of a couple of measures. I
have not had time to play with V-Vocal and more to see it it would happen
regularly. Generally, S5 seems quite a bit more stable than S4.03. S5
takes a little bit more CPU, but I can play 95% projects without the
dropouts/track sounds vanishing etc. I have spent about 6-8 hour per day
for this week. It is stable enough in w2k for me to go ahead and move
projects to it. I read that if you do not use multiple sample rates in a
song, it will still open in S4. It will give you an error, but all the data
/ tracks / plug setting are just fine.

There are lots of little tweaks that improve the way it works to. Things
like being able to display piano roll right in the track, the old +3db/-3db
adjustments have been replaced with a gain gadget that will let you do any
size bump or reduction down to 1db steps. Track icons are a real plus.
You can now group select on the fly so that changes to a selected group,
like in volume or fade times, does the whole group in one whack, and the
list goes on and on. Most of the improvements are small things, but there
are a *lot* of small improvements that add up to a really BIG improvement
over any previous version of Sonar.

I've added track icons to all the projects I'm currently working on and
    haven't blown up. I'm running S5 on WinXP SP2.

    Hey,
    Would the following be correct:
Using S4P live with laptop (Dell 1gz, PIII, 384MB ram, Echo Indigo ) , using
only soundfonts with midi files, the impact on the CPU should be about the
same with SP5? With SP4 files play fine but I would like to go to SP5.
    Thanks so much

I'm not seeing an increase in CPU use with the stuff I do. Now, turning on
64 bit double preciscion on the audio engine does make it stress out on my
    more busy projects.

No. They sound a bit more airy and open.

Yes is it noticable, but for the amount of effects I use on the mixes I do,
I will need to get a more powerful machine than my P4 2.4Ghz box to use it
all the time. It could also be some compatibility issues with my plugs.
I've heard that some plugs don't yet behave well with 64 bit.

I run my system 16 bit 44.1 too. I don't do anything with dynamics so wide
that I can't capture it, and keep the noise levels down at the same time.
