I posed this question in a couple of other newsgroups but someone suggested I post here -- seems logical, I didn't realize this group existed! (sorry...) I just bought the upgrade for Sonar Producer 8.5, and I'm wondering if there are any backward-compatibility issues I should be concerned with before I install it over Sonar Producer 6.0. I've got tons of Sonar 6.0 projects on my recording PC, it would be nice to still be able to run them (and possibly add to them) once 8.5 is installed. Also, is the free upgrade to Sonar X worth doing? Anyone have any experience with any of this? Thanks in advance!

It will install in its own directory/folder. No need to "overwrite" SONAR 6.0. It would be wise to make copies of your project files before you open them in 8.5. > I've got tons of Sonar 6.0 projects on my recording PC, it would be > nice to still be able to run them (and possibly add to them) once 8.5 > is installed. Then keep using it-you don't lose 6.0 just because you installed 8.5 as they will be in separate folders. Use a different directory for your project files for 8.5 to be safe. > Also, is the free upgrade to Sonar X worth doing? Anyone have any > experience with any of this? It's not out yet. What, someone actually listen to me? Ha! Never will happen... FWIW, I have several versions of SONAR installed on my PC (I have 8.5 but still use 8.3 for some reason) and the newer versions can open the older versions project files with little to no issues. Pro Audio 9 files may have some issues (envelopes and busses primarily) when opened with SONAR. I've got all my projects on a separate drive from the software. I'll probably go ahead and make 2 separate folders on that drive (called, just to be creative, 6.0 and 8.5) and copy all project folders into each before I go messing around.

It works for him but for me, it can be frustrating to not be able to use effects, busses and envelopes as easily as SONAR does. Some of the files in the shared folders may be updated to the latest versions but that shouldn't affect 6.0. Best thing is to backup everything before you install 8.5. -- Russ B --> Harnessing the power of kittens...for SUYMF! remove STUPIDITY to reply, however, STUPIDITY was engaged when send button was pressed

The 8.5 upgrade installed successfully, and I was able to open and play my most recent Sonar 6 project in both Sonar 6 and Sonar 8.5 (the latter after making a copy of the project). All is greatness, thanks!

Thanks, yeah, I'll check it out when it becomes available.
