Haven't used Sonar in well over a year. Been a user since cakewalk
days. Wifey needed me to cut a couple of piano tracks for her last
night, which they'd be using in the studio today. Should've been a
quickie. I installed Sonar 6 from CD (new machine), then set it up to
work with my Lexicon Lambda. Everything seemed to be working on audio
tracks but she wanted me to cut midi, then quantize (we won't go into
why). I spent about 4-5 of the most frustrating hours I've ever had,
trying to get that MF thing to work right. It'd work for a minute,
then fritz and I'd end up having to delete the synth plug, then re-
install (piano). Finally, after some very tense moments with wifey and
around 1am, I gave up, routed the midi back to the keyboard, and
recorded the external board back into an audio track.

I'm wondering if any of you regular sonar users know about any midi
bugs in S6? That sheeeet just ain't worth the trouble. Any other DAWs
    you'd recommend?

I've forgotten what it was I didn't like about Reaper, several years
back. Have they improved it much the past few years?

I use Home Studio 6 all the time, and live midi tracks from an electronic
YAmaha drum brain, which i send to ToonTrack EZ drummer. Never had any kind
of problem with it, at all.

Did you install the updates to Sonar 6? I seem to remember that one had
a few noticeable bugs when it came out, but they were fixed by later
patches. I never install a new Sonar until the first patch is out. :)

    Cheers,
    Martin

Yeah, definitely make sure and install the patches if you didn't already as
some of the x.0 versions (probably including SONAR 6) had some big issues
and almost immediate patches. Also, you mention issues with a plug-in, so
you might want to make sure that is patched to its latest levels, too, in
case the problems are actually plug-in issues that are tripping up SONAR in
    some way.

In general, though, SONAR 6 was my least favorite version of SONAR ever for
various forms of reliability and performance. Things got progressively
better with SONAR 7, SONAR 8, and SONAR 8.5.

Have you guys tried burning a CD right from the timeline yet? It's so nice
to be able to make a CD for the car, right from the mix you just dialed up.

It's way cool. When you render, you just select "Audio CD Image
(CUE/BIN)" as the output format and check "Burn CD Image after render".

That'll do the single song you have dialed up, but you can also use it's
burning capabilities like CD Architect, but dragging and dropping
multiple pre-rendered to wave files on it's timeline. I haven't tried
    that yet though.

That's good to know. I have a session next week where time is tight. That's
a great feature for quick mixes to take home!

I may mess with doing a multi-song CD this weekend using Reaper to do what
I normally use CD Architect to do. I'm pretty sure it supports CD Text,
and uses markers, crossfades, and most the stuff that CD Architect does.
