Does Sonar support the Kurzweil K2vx? I tried cakewalk 7.0 in the past but
it would not recognize the keyboard. I was wondering if the support had been
added. I'd like to buy Sonar, but not if I can't use my keyboard with it.

    THANKS!

    Hi Scott,

Your question is unclear. No DAW (Except Logic on Sound Diver-enabled
synths) can "recognise" a piece of outboard gear. All it can do is interface
    with it via MIDI.
If you mean, "Will it connect via MIDI?" then yes it should. If your
CWPA 7 could not "see" your Kurzweil as a MIDI device, then you most likely
    had some hardware/connectivity issues.
If you mean, "Will SONAR recognise all the banks and patches and sysex
data and list them by name in the Track View... it won't. No DAW will,
either. You can look at cakewalk.com downloads and see if they have an
Instrument Definition for it (which you load into Cakewalk) or check out the
bad-ass resources for Cakewalk/SONAR users here:
http://www.dspacer.com/KurzCake.htm If you can put up with the NASTY MIDI
music at the site, that is...

    Hope that helps,

    J

Yes, I meant MIDI up with it. In fact, I've found info on the web stating
that CWPA 7 won't even MIDI up with it. My Juno 106 would work fine. I could
sequence it and record tracks on CWPA with it. But when I connect the
    Kurzeil, nothing.

    Thanks for the insight!
    Scott

Dude, that is fried. The problem MUST be with the Kurzweil somehow... why
wouldn't it NOT interface? It's either MIDI-compliant or it's not... you
    would thing, anyway...

Can you point me to that info on the web? I'm v. curious about this now.

    Good luck.

Maybe I read something wrong. But I thought I'd read it. IT definitely
sounds like a pain to get to work though. I guess the drums have to be
remapped and a bank of sounds has to be created for Cakewalk to use.

I found this and it sounds pretty helpful.

a.. John W. Mason has updated his SYX2INS.EXE which will find all your K2000
(and now, maybe K2500) program banks and convert them to multiple Cakewalk
instrument format files. Read the details and you can download the program
from Sweetwater's regular (not K2000) Incoming FTP site. Look for
Syx2ins2.zip (53 KB) and see my Downloading & Un-compressing page for help,
if needed. Read Kenni Fink's explanation of How to convert Kurzweil banks to
    Cakewalk .ins files.

a.. To enable Cakewalk to "poll" your Kurzweil K2000, use a text editing
program (like Notepad) to add the following string to your "cakewalk.ini"
file--located where Cakewalk has been installed.
