www.soundclick.com/neilrutman I am spiritual and like to address some religious questions at times though I am not a Christian songwriter (nor am I a Christian) - however if Christian radio wanted to play this song I would not object! Any comments welcome. Thanks, Neil R

Cool song Neil! It does sound similar to contemporary Christian music. -- Remove YourHeadFromYourAss to Reply by email ________ __ / ____/ /__ ____ ____ / /_ ____ / / __/ / _ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \ / /_/ / / __/ / / / / / / /_/ / /_/ / \____/_/\___/_/ /_/_/ /_/_.___/\____/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- Glennbo http://www.soundclick.com/glennbo Non-Linear Sound http://www.soundclick.com/jambits Hear My Music http://www.soundclick.com/ThePseudonyms

Re: Who's Got My Back? Thanks Glennbo & Poly. Believe it or not these are NOT synthetic horns but they were sped up as was drums and a few other parts. I needed to do some processing so that the horns didn't sound to affected by the tempo change. The tool that will let you speed up or slow down tempo without introducing munchkin or demon artifacts is Reaper. Actually, to be 100% accurate it's "Elastique", which Reaper uses for it's pitch stretching algorithm. http://www.zplane.de/index.php?page=description-elastique Using the Elastique pitch stretching in Reaper, I've changed tempos and keys by way more than you'd ever think you could get away with, and it still sounded natural. -- Remove YourHeadFromYourAss to Reply by email ________ __ / ____/ /__ ____ ____ / /_ ____ / / __/ / _ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \ / /_/ / / __/ / / / / / / /_/ / /_/ / \____/_/\___/_/ /_/_/ /_/_.___/\____/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- Glennbo http://www.soundclick.com/glennbo Non-Linear Sound http://www.soundclick.com/jambits Hear My Music http://www.soundclick.com/ThePseudonyms
Re: Who's Got My Back? "how the heck do you drive south on I-95 from LA?" I cut out the verse about heading east on I 15. Re: Who's Got My Back? Poly you have great ears and I take the comment very seriously about the horns. Nobody wants to hear that their real horns sound fake. I'll hear what others have to say on this matter. Neil R "polymod" <> wrote in message news:4bc50377$0$22543$... > > "Neil Rutman" <> wrote in message > news:... >> Thanks Glennbo & Poly. Neil, Stuck around & listened to the whole list--enjoyed it! Thanks for the post. Lamar
For the most part this sounds great. Only thing that bugged me was the horn section. The arrangement felt like it was for real horns, but the sounds sounded synthy. Having since read other comments in this thread, I see they were actually real horns but sped up. Unfortunately, knowing that doesn't make them sound any less synthy. Not sure how you sped them up (I only skimmed the rest of the thread, so it's possible I missed that), but I'd suggest trying other possibilities in case it was the method that was the issue rather than just that they were sped up. If you've got monophonic tracks instead of just a submixed section, perhaps it might be worth seeing if V-Vocal might help, playing with the formant controls to see if that affects the result. (I guess you'd have to do that on the already sped up tracks at this point, but maybe adding a slight "Darth Vader"-direction effect to try and reverse the chipmunk effect might help.) Similarly, playing around with AudioSnap rendering algorithms, whether the tracks are monophonic or polyphonic, might be worthwhile. (In that case, you'd probably need to go back to the original speed tracks, AudioSnap enable them, then do the speed up and try different types of rendering for bounces.) Short of finding a fix for the speeding up results, I'd suggest either having them redone (even with really good quality fake horns like those from Sample Modeling) or replacing the part with a part that works with a more synthetic sound. Re: Who's Got My Back? Mix sounds great. I'm not a big fan of the electric piano-like solo, which seems to lose some energy. The sound feels a bit too sine-wavy, maybe more like an FM electric piano than a real one, and the combination of the sound and playing (a bit too straight? perhaps quantized???) seem to me to lose intensity. I think it is better without the brass, though.
