    Hi all
I've got a lot of music recorded on Amiga with DR.T KCS. all songs include
SYS EX data from Roland Sound Canvas and Roland JD990. When I send them back
to instruments from Amiga - every thing works perfect, but when I send them
to my pc and record them with Cubase SE and then send them to the
instruments I got a lot of Checksum Error. Midi notes get transferred all
right, it only SYS EX that gives me problems.

It seems that data get into cubase se all right - all data I checked start
with F0 and stops with F7

    Please help !

    cheers
    Kenneth

    Hi Kenneth,

Man...... I used KCS (& Bars & Pipes Pro) for years on an Amiga.

I think we need to know more about your PC, as in what MIDI interface
you're using, what operating system, WinXP I imagine?

And... are you using any (emulated) MIDI ports in CubaseSE?

As I remember... and this has to do as much with WinXP as Cubase...
any interruption in the sysex data flow can cause a sysex fault. So if
a note is transmitted (or controller data..) during the sysex dump a
    fault can happen.

It can also be the fault of emulated drivers as well.

    Can you isolate the sysex?

I use win XP pro (uk version) and Madio Delta 24/96
Both midi in- and out is Delta AP midi - so no emulated midi used

I mute all other track so no notes is played.
I also tried to make a sys ex dump directly from JD990 to cubase se and
when returned to instrument I get a lot of checksum error.
I also tried to lower the beat during play back to reduce the dataflow -
still same problem. So the problem seems to origin from the pc/cubase not
    amiga.

what do you mean by "> Can you isolate the sysex?" ??

    Kenneth,

I'm pretty sure SE uses the same MIDI system as SX.
Have you read about the "ignoreportfilter" file?

This is from a message I posted a couple of days ago.

    ignoreportfilter
MIDI port filter - Important note regarding MIDI Interfaces

    =======================================================
Cubase SX / SL version 1.02 or higher has a function to filter out
redundant MIDI ports provided by the MIDI interface driver. For
instance if the MIDI interface driver installs both Windows MIDI ports
and DirectMusic ports, these ports used to both show up in former
Cubase SX / SL versions. Since DirectMusic mirrors the Windows MIDI
ports as "emulated" DirectMusic ports by itself, it was possible that
the MIDI ports showed up even 3 times in the MIDI device list in
Cubase SX / SL. These multiple appearances of the MIDI ports were
actually "multiple versions" of the same physical MIDI port.

To avoid this, Cubase SX / SL 1.02 and higher provides an option to
remove these redundant entries utilizing the MIDI port filter.
However, in some cases the non-filtered, left over MIDI ports that
will show up in the MIDI device list of Cubase SX / SL can be the ones
that actually do not work as the MIDI interface driver doesn't support
the DirectMusic architecture as Cubase SX / SL would expect.

These cases were for example found with the following MIDI Interfaces:

    - MIDIMAN MIDIsport 8x8
    - MOTU MIDITimepieceAV
    -And OTHERS as well

In this case, you can re-enable the filtered MIDI ports by proceeding
    as follows:

    - Browse to the Cubase SX / SL application folder (usually
    C:\programs\steinberg\cubasesx)
and locate the folder "MIDI Port Enabler"
    - Open this folder
    - Pick the file "ignoreportfilter" and move it into the Cubase SX / SL
    application folder (one directory up)
    - Start Cubase SX / SL

Now all available MIDI ports provided by the MIDI interface driver
will appear in the MIDI device list of Cubase SX / SL. Please be aware
that the MIDI ports now can show up 2 or 3 times in the list. If
you're used to manage your MIDI IN by setting "All MIDI Inputs" in the
MIDI IN selector, you should go to the Device Setup/All MIDI Inputs
and disable the unwanted ports. Otherwise you will record MIDI from
multiple ports which results in double MIDI notes.

    ==========================================================

In addition to the above text from Steinberg.

    After doing this:

Go to Device Setup/DirectMusic and select "NO" for all ports.

Now there will be no (emulated) ports visible.

Just want to make sure we're straight on this.

    ============================================

    There's a Win32 Sysex Dump program here.
    Get version 1.21

    http://www.bome.com/midi/

Or hre, fr a great utility.

    http://www.midiox.com/

It's also possible that early versions of SE suffered
some of the same MIDI problems that early versions of
    SX had.

I've tried the ignoreportfilter procedure (pew - hard stuff - for me to
    understand) - no luck
Also I've all the time selected "Delta AP midi" for both in and out.

I've DL the program. It possible to get sys ex data both way's but there
still remail a single "execlutive check sum error" or two. and basicly I
wanna do it from inside cubase se - to have everything in a single file.

    More ideas..... ?

    Unfortunately... no.

I would try the latest drivers from the M-Audio website.

You also might try visiting Cubase.net

    http://www.steinberg.net/en/support/forums/

There's a few good people over there but it's been my experience that
the whiners are in greater number.

There's also two or three representatives from Steinberg online.

Just to let you know, I can transfer sysex to and from Cubase SX, so
    it is possible.

You might try slowing down the tempo in Cubase. Try 80 bpm.
