So I did it, went from 2.2 to 8.5 Producer. It's like moving into a new house and you can't find anything. But it has air conditioning. And indoor plumbing. I'm gonna love this as soon as I get used to it! Here's why I'm no threat to anyone who does music for a living (also, sorry for the Iphone video). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egtEzVy0KRw I look forward to finishing that piece in 8.5.
You are gonna love it! I like your ambient backing track for the fire. Post it somewhere when it's finished. I wish I'd had a better video camera but I had a job to do, even if as a volunteer, so I had to go with the Iphone. It doesn't begin to show how hard it hit the trees. I shall probably re-do it as a slide show with fire stills and other shots showing the "re-birth" of the vegetation. > Cheers, > Martin > > On 10-05-29 09:46 AM, TimK wrote: >> So I did it, went from 2.2 to 8.5 Producer. >> >> It's like moving into a new house and you can't find anything. >> >> But it has air conditioning. >> And indoor plumbing. >> >> I'm gonna love this as soon as I get used to it! >> >> Here's why I'm no threat to anyone who does music for a living (also, >> sorry >> for the Iphone video). >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egtEzVy0KRw >> >> I look forward to finishing that piece in 8.5. >> >> >

Congrats on your upgrade. I am thinking about upgrading myself to get the new features. Last weekend however, I noticed an annoying event in 8.5 that I have not seen in 7. On my machine at home I have 7, my friends machine is very similar to mine ( I built them both) The only differences are that he has a quad-core 9550 where I have a duo 8600, and he has upgraded to 8.5 Everything else is the same WinXP SP3 Intel MoBo Video Card, RAM. I really like the look of 8.5 but when I use the nudge feature during playback the application crashes. Other than an occasional stutter the piece continues playing with the nudged track in the new position with my machine running 7. Has anyone else experienced that phenomenon? Sounds like the audio engine is struggling to get back on track, but can't because the DAW soft is busy trying to keep other balls in the air. I dropped out of Sonar at V5, but it seemed to not like anything being changed audio wise as playback was happening. A feature I don't miss. -- Remove YourHeadFromYourAss to Reply by email ________ __ / ____/ /__ ____ ____ / /_ ____ / / __/ / _ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \ / /_/ / / __/ / / / / / / /_/ / /_/ / \____/_/\___/_/ /_/_/ /_/_.___/\____/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- Glennbo http://www.soundclick.com/glennbo Non-Linear Sound http://www.soundclick.com/jambits Hear My Music http://www.soundclick.com/ThePseudonyms

Can't say how it performs for other people, but for me it lets me do insane things while playing back without causing any more than a split second splat. This only happens if I do something like move a playing wave file a lot, like a full measure or something. Using the "bump" keys (4 and 6 on the numeric 10 key pad), I can nudge a playing waveform forward or backward, and only produce single pops *if* I happen to catch the wave at one of it's up or down extremities. Most the time, I get no artifact. The eval download is the full uncrippled program. You should give it a try if for nothing else, to use as a 2nd point of reference on your hardware. -- Remove YourHeadFromYourAss to Reply by email ________ __ / ____/ /__ ____ ____ / /_ ____ / / __/ / _ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ \ / /_/ / / __/ / / / / / / /_/ / /_/ / \____/_/\___/_/ /_/_/ /_/_.___/\____/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- Glennbo http://www.soundclick.com/glennbo Non-Linear Sound http://www.soundclick.com/jambits Hear My Music http://www.soundclick.com/ThePseudonyms

It's a nice app IMO. If you're 'old skool' and hardware consoles, outboard gear routing etc. make sense to you, then Reaper will too once you forget how other programs work. At least, it made good sense for me from that perspective. It feels like an actual hardware flow to me but with none of the limitations of actual hardware -- full sends out and back, blended sends ('one click out insert'), pre and post everything, as many as your PC can handle. And midi follows almost the same routing that audio does. -- Sue Morton "Papa Homer" <> wrote in message news:hu6tok$2bht$... > Thanks again, I can't wait to get home and try this out! > (The cached pages in google look fantastic)

I haven't experienced it, and I use nudge quite a bit with playback going, primarily in increments of 1 ms, 5 ms, or 10 ms. Occasionally it does cause a dropout, but it hasn't yet crashed on me (in any version of SONAR, no less 8.5.3, which is the latest update level on 8.5). FWIW, my system is SONAR 8.5.3 x64 running on Windows 7 Professional x64, with the hardware being an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 with 4 GB of RAM. I wouldn't think it should cause crashes, but obviously something has to be flaky somewhere in there if it is crashing. Someone would have to look at the crash dumps to have a better clue as to what appears to be crashing. Depending on what else is going on, it could be anything from a plug-in to some kind of drivers issues to something in SONAR itself.
