    More Sunday Morning Rambling!

This time I used the huge 26" Slingerland kick and other drums from
the Allaire Studios samples. This one is three whole tracks of me
    playing guitar, bass, and drums.

I call it "Three Piece One Man Band"! <g>

    Tanks Mon! :)

I've been wanting to hear these Allaire samples in a mix, and a quick
three piece thing seemed like the thing to try.

    Neat!
The guitar on the intro section reminds me of agitated red wing black
bird calls. I hear an all out free form Captain Beafheart sax solo
building to Eric Dolphy-ness frenzy . sax/reeds Red Wing Blackbirds
like reeds and reeds grow in ponds so..

you could name it "Gollums Pond"

    Thanks Gregor! :)

I recorded the drums first on this one, and they were so big
sounding that when I started dialing through the presets on
my guitar preamp, I kept stopping on the most grungy ones.
The fuzz tone inspired me to play the barking birds thing! ;)

The bass was recorded clean, but is being run stereo with the
clean track panned left, and a second feed from the bass track
is being run through Freeamp on a distortion patch panned right.

Listening to it, I thought of John Bonham's Polar Studio samples as he
really brought out the 26" sound for me. I have tried to get it with
limited success by bathing the -1-ish bent kick of TTS-1 Standard with the
Lexicon. That is why I wondered if they would sample that most desired
"Bron-Y-Aur Staircase" drum sound Andy Johns captured. Having a "real" 26"
kick would definitely help too.)

The moment I heard the 26" kick I thought of Bonham's kit. They have
a SansAmp channel that is the individual drums through a fuzzed up
SansAmp amp simulator. I've got some of that dialed in on the kick
and snare of this song to make them even bigger than life sounding.

The drums sound really nice here. A little "wet" for my taste, but they sure sound "big" ;-)

    Nice. Drums sound great!
In an expanded version I could hear some Zep' vocals in the vein of Kashmir.

    Thanks John! :)

I intentionally went for a lot of room sound, because I was going for
the big ambient John Bonham sound. They sure are fun to play!

    Thanks Poly!

Hehe, I might have to use a pitch transposer if I was gonna try to
sing something that sounded Zeppelin'ish. <g>

Very nice! Okay, maybe 'nice' isn't the right word, especially when you git to
that Jimi Hendrix chord, which I like the best. Didn't know you had any of those
sharped-ninths in Oklahoma. I thought they were mostly out here in Seattle.

All that's lacking is a Joey Wha? solo or maybe a ginchy organ solo.

    Tanks mon! :)

I don't know what a sharped-ninth chord is. I just randomly plant my
fingers on the fretboard until I like what I hear. <g>

There's two stops at 0:43 and 0:44, so that makes three pieces!!!

    It's as easy as 1, 2, C!!!

That was cool. When I first read the subject of your post I thought you were
referring to a live 1 man band. There's a guy who performs regularly
inVenice CA who plays guitar, bass with his left foot, kik with his right
and he has a special vest that allows him to play snare with his left elbow
and cymbal with his right. He also plays sax instead of gtr on some tunes.
    It's really quite remarkable.

    Thanks Neil! :)

I needed to try out the big bass drum on something, so a three piece
hard rock jam seemed to be the thing. There's a video of a one man
band dood who plays accordian and has a suitecase with a kick pedal
for a bass drum, and chains on his left foot that he smacks on a
pan for his snare. He does a pretty cool verson of "Billie Jean".
