I used the VST to insert a MIDI and audio traks all neatly wrapped up
in a folder. then in kontakt I used the library tab and found solo
Cello and loaded it. When I activate the different pink colored keys
on the bottom left of the keyboard the notes i click on respond as
they should with different articulations (pizzicato, sticatto, tremolo
    and such).

Now comes the hard part. I went in to the piano view roll in Sonar
and put some notes in to test it and I'm having trouble figuring out
how to get a note in the piano view to change the kontakt note played
like I want for each different articulation. If I want two long
notes followed by a few pizzicato notes, I can't figure out how to
designate the note on the piano view to make kontakt player play the
    different style

Does anyone know how to help me set this up so I can put the notes in
the piano view and designate what version of the Cello sample I
control when it plays back? I don't even know what they'd call that
    in the help menu?

    Thanks

For the most part in Kontakt, changing articulations depends on the library
you are using. Some of the libraries have key switching where you enter a
specific note and it triggers such things a pizzicato, legato, vibrato etc.
If the library doesn't have key switching then you might have to set up
separate tracks for pizzi strings, legato, sustained notes etc. and then set
the tracks up loading the patches you need for those articulations. Refer
to the manual for the library to find which notes do the switching or you
can just hit the notes that are below or sometimes above the instrument's
range of playable notes and find out which trigger notes to use.

Some libraries have good documentation., like Scarbee bass, some,
well, if they're documented, it's well hidden. If there's a pattern,
let me know if you find it. I'd like to be able to be able to toggle
pizza/legato with a pedal, among other things.

    Sorry about the trigger finger<g>

It's pretty EZ Paul. You just have to make sure you put the articulation
trigger notes at the right pitch just before the next articulated note.
As you can see in the "keyboard view" of Kontakt, the articulation trigger
notes are usually an octave below the lowest note of the instrument's range.
Just put your trigger notes there. That's all there is to it.
