I just got a used VG-8EX and GK-2A. I have the pickup mounted on my Les Paul
using double-sided tape. I want to make the mounting more reliable and
stable. How have you mounted the GK-2A on your guitar? btw, there were no
mounting shims or screws with the unit.
    TIA,
    John D.

I mounted it with wooden screws and plastic washers to adjust the height. By
the way it sits a lot better upside down, this way it gets out of the way
from your right hand. You just have to tell the VG that you reversed it in
    the menu somewhere.

I got tired of that large, ugly lump and installed a GK-3 internal kit into
my strat: http://www.radmer.dk/vg88.htm , it works great and I got a red
    light on my Strat ;~)

I'm looking to get a GR-20 soon and plan to put it on a new Epiphone
Paul. No way I'm hacking up my nice 25+ year old Strat (it's white,
similar to yours but without the mother-of-toilet seat pickguard).

I fully agree, that's why I hacked up a cheap (but really great sounding)
    Highway1 Strat.

By the way you can get other types of hex pickups than just the Roland GK's.
I'm wuite sure you can get replacement saddles with piezo pickups for both
LP and Strats: http://vg-8.com/wiki/Pickups I think I will try one of those
    for the next guitar

    JimR,

I really liked the idea of reversing the direction of the pickup cord but
I couldn't find any parameter to let the VG-8EX know that I have done that.
    Are you using an 88?

    Thanks,
    John D

    Randall,

Please post your impressions of the GR-20 after you've played it for a
while. I'm asking because my main interest is in creating a variety of
guitars that I can run into my PODxt Live for effect and amps. With the VG-8
there are so many guitars you can create, and I like 3 of the same so I can
have 1 Bridge, 2 Both and 3 Neck. And, with Strats you need 5 to get all of
the pickup selections. So, creating many guitars doesn't leave many patches
for including a variety of effects.

    TIA,
    John D

    JimR,

Actually, I tried that, maybe on a much cheaper level... I have an Ibanez
with a 25-1/2" scale and a tremolo. It play pretty good but it's not a LP
Standard. I bought a "cheap" Squire Tele for the same purpose and the result
was the same. It just doesn't play like my LP. I don't think I want to spend
500+ on an Epiphone but I guess that's the way to go...

    Thanks,
    John D

Oh, yes I am using the VG-88.

That is - until i get some money to get the new VG-99, it looks really cool!

A friend of mine who plays professionally has one and says it's great.
He says that the guitar sounds are kinda crappy, but he can switch to
the native sound of the guitar for that. But he says that the strings,
keyboards, etc. are all pretty decent.

I play in a worship team at a church a couple times a month. I usually
play bass and maybe a song or two on keys. I'm looking at the GR-20 so
that I can use a 6-string guitar to still play bass when needed and
also to do strings, synth pad, whatever as needed. I'm a guitar player,
    not a keyboard player...and I'd rather play a 6-string all the time.

I'm planning to make the purchase next weekend. Considering having the
electronics permanently installed since I'm getting a guitar dedicated
    to the synth anyway.
