I have a Voce DMI-64. I've recently acquired a Voce Midi Drawbar (older model) I can get it to accept midi messages from Volume, Overdrive, and percussion/vib/chorus settings, but not from keyclick, hum, and more importantly the drawbars themselves. Furthermore these changes are only effective in omni mode. I pull the drawbars, the midi activity (COM) light shows activity, but no change is apparent. I am aware of the DMI settings at which drawbar settings are and are not available internally. I have contacted Voce (DR music) to no avail. not supported. The Midi Drawbar manual on the voceinc site is for a later model and only addresses use with a V3. The DMI manual does not address use with a Midi Drawbar at all. anyway, I tried to make all changes pertinent to drawbar use, but no result. Do I really need to get a V3? Is the operation more straightforward with that? Seems there's some setting on the DMI that I am missing, although I've gone through all parameters a few times already. FINALLY---There's a switch on the back that says mode. Unit does not specify the difference. ?? Thanks! mike
The DMI 64 came out before the drawbar units. The drawbar units are specifically designed to work with the V3. They didn't do any retr support for the DMI module. It sucks. OK...I got it working Turns out the drawbar unit I have happens to be the one (of 3!) models that works with the DMI I came across a yahoo group (Clonewheel Support Group) and posted a message. Turns out one of the moderators is Dave Amels from the original Voce Company. He was very helpful and friendly about it. Anyway, the drawbar unit HAS to be the one with 3 midi jacks. (merge in, aux in , and out) The Aux In is critical because there has to be a loop between the DMI and the Drawbar, (keyboard midi out to Drawbar merge in, Drawbar out to DMI in, DMI out to Drawbar aux in) Two of 3 versions do not have this Aux In, including the latest model. I guess it might be possible to use a merge box to achieve this on the other models...not sure, though. There is a toggle switch on the back of the Drawbar labeled "mode" The two positions (unmarked!!) are "DMI mode" and "Non-DMI mode". DMI mode is toward the center of the unit. (at least on mine!) Drawbars are only effective on DMI presets that incorporate the programmable waveforms (56-63) in the DMI, set in parameter 3 (waveform select) Anyway, there's a little more to it, but that's the bottom line. It's not a myth!! It actually does work!
