You say "triggering." If you are not planning on using the internal sounds any cheap 5 octave keyboard with a midi out will get you going. Maybe you could borrow one from a friend to check you can get your set-up going - then pick something up cheaply in the used ads of your local paper (or Gumtree or EBay or whatever).
