Which antivirus program to install on my DAW?

I have a DAW running Sonar Producer 8.5, and I'd like to install an
effective antivirus application that can be disabled and re-enabled
quickly, so I can easily disable it while I'm running Sonar, but turn
it back on when I'm doing other things on the computer (like
    connecting to the internet).

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks,
    Jonathan

I'm using Microsoft's Security Essentials, but I never disable it.

Wow...it appears to be free. What's the catch? :)
Do you think it's a viable replacement for McAffee?

I used to use McAffee, but it got to be too invasive for me, and I switched
to AVG free. In the last year or so, AVG free has gotten almost as
invasive as McAffee, so I dumped it and switched to Security Essentials,
which is less invasive and has a smaller footprint than these security apps
that want to be in control of every aspect of your computer.

I've been using the free version of Avira Antivir for the past year or
so. It seems quite light on system resource usage compared to most of
the other ones I've tried. It is easy to temporarily disable, just
right-click on the system tray icon. The one thing that might be a
problem is that it pops up an ad banner every time it retrieves its
virus definition updates. I have that set to do it automatically once
per day, but you can change that interval or even disable the auto
updates entirely and do them manually.

    Thanks for the tip.
    I'm gonna try it!

I'm not using any on my DAWs. I go to Trend's site once a week and do
    an online scan.

I use MSE on the other systems. You hardly know it's there.

Well, Computer Associates stuff will do that, but their latest version has
become a real pig chewing up a half gig to run.

I second what Glennbo said. I never went through AVG in between, but did go
from McAfee to Microsoft Security Essentials and am very glad I did. It is
    much less intrusive.

I used to use Zone Alarm Security Suite cos it could be set not to
load on startup. What I only recently found out was it was
interfering with my network when I did need to be connected. I use
MSSE now. You can pause real-time protection if you want to, but I
forget most of the time; so far not noticed a difference.
