Unfortunately I can't afford to buy a Roland RD-300SX digital piano keyboard, so I would love to know if any of Roland's previous (digital piano) keyboards have a similar action. I would then look for a second hand one. I am a seasoned piano+synth player and I need to replace my smaller synth-action keyboard with another model that feels as close to the RD-300SX action as possible. Roland describes the action as a "Progressive Hammer-Action", although in my case the 'Progressive' bit is not important. I don't care what the on board sounds are like because I will be using an external sound module for (piano) sound generation. Ideally I'd get a controller keyboard, but the weighted actions on them are rather ordinary. I fell in love with the action on the RD-300SX when I recently went keyboard shopping. I did get a chance to compare it to other weighted actions on current comparable models from other top manufacturers. In an attempt to explain why I love the action so much I can say that: - The keys have very little resistance to being initially pushed down (a physics property known as 'stiction') - when I release a key, it didn't 'shake' (for want of a better term) as much as the other brands. My other lower priority criteria include - 88 or 76 keys - Sustain AND Expression pedal input sockets - At least a couple of program change buttons (assignable to MIDI program changes) and some transpose buttons. So in summary - can anyone (maybe with experience playing on Roland pianos) suggest some older Roland models which use a similar action? regards Peter
i have good experience with rd600. feels like wood. has sufficient high quality sounds for jamming. i bought it used. roland FP series is more heavy and tight for me, but still good. just stay away from rd150.
Have you ever played an RD-1000 ? It has a weighted wooden action. However, it's also pretty heavy ( about 100lbs)
