Hi, As said in a previous thread, I'm trying out Win 7 x64. What list of tweaks would you recommend? I feel like I'm gonna be quite happy with this one: http://www.zikmao.net but I wondered if any other source was known amongst this forum's participants. Thx. Huey

Maybe the Background Services priority setting, though even that's unproved on multi-core systems. CubaseFAQ page: http://www.laurencepayne.co.uk/CubaseFAQ.htm

As you know, under Win XP, there were a lot of services that could be turned off, ofr instance. This is what I want to do now: eliminate everything that eats processing power without being needed by cubase and my sound card. Would you say that it is unuseful? s : it was useful in Xp but not in seven? huey

I'm not sure most of them made much difference in XP either! We're well past the days when underpowered computers had to be tweaked right up to the edge just to get audio to work at all. There's a hundred threads running just to keep Windows running, and you can't do anything about them. Turning off a few optional ones isn't going to be earth-shattering! Try "Background Services" and pull the plug on any network and Internet connections. Don't install any of the more invasive security suites. Don't schedule your virus scan for a time when you'll be recording! Indexing is quite heavy-duty during the initial scan, but after that it does little harm - I'd not worry about leaving it on if you find it useful. Don't choose a laptop as your music production machine. Other than that, don't go looking for problems until they look for you I felt sorry for XP users who took misguided advice to turn off System Restore. It's a lifesaver. It's a lifesaver. - I never stopped making images of my HDDs, but not with Windows. On the other hand, I never had strange crashes. Ever, ever, ever, with my "tweaked" XP. But thx again, you answered my question quite thouroughly. Huey
