My recording computer is not connected to the internet. I have XP
installed, but have not installed any of the "service packs." Are
any of these helpful or even essential for using SX3?
If I do need them, from where can I download them? I assume I can
just burn the service packs to a cdr and install them on the
    recording computer.
    Thank you.

If your computer is working well, and security updates are not an
issue, you could leave well alone.

If you want to install SP2 it is available on many computer magazine
cover disks, or Microsoft will send you a CD for free.
    Ask for it at:

I stuck with service pack 1, a very solid upgrade to the OS. I felt
    SP2 much less so.

Before trying SP2 I ghosted my SP1 system, after a couple of hours
with SP2 I restored my original SP1 system.

I think SP1 had some USB & Firewire improvements.

    So what happened under SP2?

Nothing to speak of, system felt sluggish is all.

Noticed a couple of more precesses running in the background.

Since I don't have a permanent internet connection and mostly haunt
only audio lists, newsgroups and do email, it seemed like an upgrade I
    can do without for now.
