Hi everyone.. Apart from writing songs, I sometimes have to mess with midi files for gigging. Some of the older stuff is Yamaha XG format which can be a pig to work with in Cubase.(Apparently Sonar handles it way better but that's no use to me) Strange as Yamaha now owns Steinberg!! I have a very old VSTi ...Yamaha SY-XG50 ..which as you might guess is XG based - its a bit like Steinberg's old Universal Sound Module but it sounds considerably better. I'd long been after a way of using this in Cubase. Many moons ago you could, but the ability to edit the sounds was lost after VST3.7!!! I'd given up hope of ever using this again until the other day. My gigging partner sent me a couple of XG midi files to play with. I couldn't get anything in C5 to play them properly so I ended up doing some research. It turns out that Yamaha have just released an XG editor for Cubase 5 which does exactly what I always wanted. Its only available on their Japanese site: http://www.yamahasynth.com/jp/downloads/ There's a bit of guess work involved in finding it...but I got there. The installer is Japanese too but not too difficult to work through..thankfully the editor itself is English language. I wouldn't bother with any of this if it wasn't for these frigging XG files. I'm sure there's an easier way but its working for me so I'll go with it. I've no idea if this is of any interest to anyone else here but though I'd pass it on anyway.... LL
